pflaming Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 In looking at Bud's truck and especially the chopped top, if were to choose between an expensive paint job and a nice chopped top and a 'Maco' paint job, I would go Maco with the paint. I really like the look of the Pilot-house as is but that is one modification that I especially like. Looking forward to Bud's final product. Bud I hope you do not use the same color you used on the Plymouth. Question: What is the going price on a chopped top? Request: Any pictures of other chopped tops on the forum? Quote

Paul, do not go the maaco route, all the good work will look like crap (IMHO) if you do. Yes, the same color is going to be used on the truck. I paid $39.95 a gallon off of the bay. It is very shiny and purple is my favorite color. the going price on a top chop??? you would have to call some shops that do this and get a feel as it will vary from shop to shop. Figure approk 5k or so. here is a link from the forum that has a nice chopped pilothouse. this is the one that made me go and buy one of these things. Dave72dt Posted June 18, 2009 Report Posted June 18, 2009 This one is a relatively easy chop because of the nearly vertical panels and even easier if you use two roofs. Still very labor intensive to get seam lines, inside and outside to line up and look as if they were that way from the factory. Window channels in the doors for example. Stock headliners won't fit either because the roof is longer and you need to deal with door glass, vent windows, windshleds. So when you put all that effort into getting it right, paint it right I've heard of 2k and over for installing floor pans in some collector cars. 5k for top drop doesn't seem unresaonable considering the fabrication involved.
