Rider145 Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 Anyone know if the emergency brake drum from a 55 DeSoto will fit a 48 D24? I asked for a 48 e-brake drum on parts wanted, no response. Thanks Quote
'54 Special Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 Anyone know if the emergency brake drum from a 55 DeSoto will fit a 48 D24?I asked for a 48 e-brake drum on parts wanted, no response. Thanks Isn't the emergency brake on the '41 thru '48 Mopars adjacent to the transmission ? That's not true of the '55 model year...those vehicles (the '55s) used the rear brake drums for emergency stops. The earlier models had a "dedicated" emergency brake that (more-or-less) stopped the driveshaft itself. Not sure when the "big changeover happened (to using the rear drums) but I think it happened with the "second-series" 1949 modelss. Quote
RobertKB Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 My '53 Plymouth still has the emergency brake drum behind the transmission. I think it lasted for a while longer. Anyone have a parts book? Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted June 17, 2009 Report Posted June 17, 2009 I know for sure it was still being used in 1961 as we had that on the Belvedere.. Quote
Rider145 Posted June 18, 2009 Author Report Posted June 18, 2009 Still don't know about the 55 DeSoto, but I may have found a match in Ontario. Canada, that is Quote
