pflaming Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 In a recent post, a very nice black Dodge truck was for sale @ $2,500. The truck was in WI. If that price was valid that was a good buy. These Pilot-house trucks should be worth more than that. Was that a fluke or was that the beginning price? Quote
Reg Evans Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 Paul, Here's an example. I paid $1800 for this 50 1/2 ton runner last year. It's all there but needs a restoration. It has a '59 230 truck engine. Quote
pflaming Posted May 29, 2009 Author Report Posted May 29, 2009 Reg: Wow! For those prices the only reason one would fix one up would be to say he did! Quote

Paid $800 for mine and drove it onto the trailer. the only reason I didn't drive her the 60 miles home was the rotten tires. BUd Quote
pflaming Posted May 29, 2009 Author Report Posted May 29, 2009 (edited) Paid $250 for this and it did not have an engine. It has the original wheels, hub caps, and tires. I thought I had a bargain, but it was just a good buy. Pleased. Edited April 10, 2017 by pflaming Quote
Bob_Koch Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 I was fortunate as this was given to me - as in free. But I can't calculate the amount of money I already have into it and not done yet. I can say that when I get done, I wouldn';t sell it for cheap, though i certainly have no plans on doing that. i already have 4 years of labor into it and probably another one to go. It's better if I don't total the current receipts. Quote
Allen I. Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 A lot of this is regional too. Although there are some in my area that might disagree, there are not as many older vehicles that have lived in the Rust Belt that are still in nice shape. I find that there is a bit of a premium on them. I paid over $4K for mine. She is not much to look at but runs like a watch and came with like new doors and front fenders sitting in the bed. I'll get them on and painted someday... Reg's new Yeller has more parts and is probably in better shape but I'd spend another couple grand to get her here and would not have had the benefit of seeing it before purchase. Todd B used to say that the real question is "what is it worth to you?" and I am coming to appreciate that more and more. Quote
Bradley S. Posted May 29, 2009 Report Posted May 29, 2009 If that was the truck on e-bay that I posted, then that was the beginning bid price. Quote

Three grand gets you very little here, with it still requiring lots work undoing the ravages of rust. I wasn't necessarily looking to get a Dodge but wanted something of the 50s' vintage. A friend of mine, also into vintage VWs like me, offered he'd check out any truck I was able find in Idaho on Craigslist. They apparently don't have rust problems there and prices are way lower than up here in New England. I found a very complete 52 1/2 ton for $1500. Another 1K in shipping and I now have a very solid project truck. Quote
Vintrader Posted May 30, 2009 Report Posted May 30, 2009 I have bought and sold a few Pilot House Trucks in the last few years. As a rule I find that they bring about half the price or a little more than a Chevrolet or Ford of the same year and condition with some exceptions. Even though I believe over all they are a better built truck and where more expensive new. I think the availability of restoration parts play a big factor in these values as it will cost more to restore a Dodge that the above brands. But some of use will all ways march to a little different drummer. Long Live Pilot House Trucks. Dutch Quote
