Anybody know of any other vendor besides Terrell Machine who supplies vacuum advances for our distriubutors? Terrell gets like $65 just to rebuild one of these little things. Burn Bumm is even higher. Can this be true? I can buy vacuum advances for most any other engine for a feaction of this price. Anybbody have any success finding these things reasonably?

Thanks

Since they used these engines until '59 would NAPA be able to get these for you? Sometimes their listings go back further than I would have imagined.

5-6 years ago I bought a NOS vacuum pot on the bay and installed it on my distributor. My car has ran well and I have not touched my distributor in over 25,000 miles until last Friday. I have a replacement dual point distributor that has been freshened and curved by James Douglas on his distributor machine. I spent most of yesterday atempting to dial in this fresh distributor with no luck. With a bit of frustation I was ready to install new points in my old distributor and go with it. Prior to doing so I connected my vacuum pump to the vacuum pot on my old distributor to insure it was still working. To my surprise it has failed. So I have been running with no vacuum advance for who knows how long. Today I will dial in the freshened distributor. And I am now also looking to find a replacement vacuum pot for my old distributor. I have done business with Terrell in the past and they are a good company to do business with but like Dave I find the price of a rebuilt vacuum pot a bit steep. And I have learned that a NOS unit is not the best way to go. Sixty year old rubber parts apparently will not hold up with todays blends of gasolene.

Update;

Dialed in the freshened distributor and my engine is once again running great. Amazing how an engine will not start when the wires in the distributor cap are one post off.:rolleyes:

thanks for the laugh. Good to see even the "Zen Masters" are human too.LOL

Hey Don,

I realize we are talking of two different threads here, but back in the seventies, when J taught in a Ford Div. service school and had a distributor test bench and scope all at my own personal disposal, I set up the advance curves on many dual point distributors for Ford motors. Without excpetion, none of these dual point units used vacuum advance - just the advance curve from the centrifugal weights alone. Memory says 28 degrees full advance at about 3000 crank rpms. Does your dual point diz have a vacuum pot?

I'll check with NAPA tomorrow a.m. on vacuum advance availability and report back.
