Tony WestOZ Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 Here are some pics of an Australian Pilothouse truck that has had a resto. This is a 1960-61. Last year of the Pilothouse series in Australia. Its a 1075. 175" wheel base. 25000 lbs GVM. Came with a 361 big block engine. This one is fitted with a tipper rear. Quote
Reg Evans Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 Wow Tony, That's a beauty. The cab and windshield look like the 1954 Pilot houses here in the US. I have a 59 Dodge Station Wagon with a 361 engine. It's rated at 295 hp with a 2bbl and single exhaust and 325 hp with a 4 bbl and dual exhaust. Great engines. Quote
Bob_Koch Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 A great lookin truck. Anyone would be happy to have that on the farm. By the way Tony - What's the progress report on your truck? Quote

MBF Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 It'd be interesting to see the dash to see which version of the PH cab they used especially w the 1 pc windshield. Looks like they used 48-50 style doors. Mike Quote
Merle Coggins Posted March 26, 2009 Report Posted March 26, 2009 I seem to remember seeing that the US '54 C1 series trucks have the longer door crease like the B1's and B2's. I don't remember what the dash would look like on a '54. Merle Quote
Tony WestOZ Posted March 28, 2009 Author Report Posted March 28, 2009 The cab on this truck is basicly a 1950 cab fitted with a one piece windscreen. This change took place in 1955 and carried through to 61. The intrument panel was changed for the 60-61 model. They were moved out of the dash panel and mounted in a black plastic cover mounted on the dash over the steering column. The pic below shows the intruments with out the cover fitted. With the doors, they never changed shape from 48 to 62. The only modification was to the door latch and the outside door handles which changed to a push button style in 60. Bob, nothings happend on my truck since I did the final fitting 16 months ago. I am now(hopefully) over my health problems so if I am not forced to sell my house I might be able to do some work on it in a couple of months. I should take a more up to date pic. I have lost the long hair and most of the beard and a bit of weight. Quote
Ray Bell Posted April 7, 2009 Report Posted April 7, 2009 Nice to see you active again, Tony... I really liked the last model Pilot House trucks. With that dual headlight setup and the flash grille, they were something different to what we'd seen on the roads for a decade and in many ways better looking than the AT4 which followed them. I believe Bruce Robinson has finally found a good cab to do up for his fifthwheeler project, picked it up at the huge truck wrecker's out in the western Downs. Quote
