I currently own two 1955 p-27 Plymouth Belvedere cars. I was wondering if there was any simple way to tell if they are running the 241 or the 260 ci engines. One of the cars is said to have the 241 it has red rocker covers, could be painted red afterwards? The other I don't know what it is supposed to have, it has silver/grey rocker covers? any input would be helpfull. both cars are complete, one is a driver and really clean condition the other has been sitting for a few years and I am getting ready to try to breathe life into it.

Rob sent me a PM asking the above question.

I replied that I am not familiar with those engines, and suggested that

he post his question here.

So.....can anyone offer him some info?????

Thanks in advance.

1955

P26 had the 230 6 cyl

P27 241 V8 from serial number P27-1001

P27 259.2 V8 from serial number P27-60201

Thanks Tim, I could not find any information in my service manual stating this info. I am guessing this is from the engine serial #? one is p27-153728 the other is p27-55615 so I am still a little confused.

I get it now, sorry I was having a not so bright moment earlier. I was not counting the digits in my block numbers. I am sure having alot of fun working on the old mopar, this has been something I have wanted to do my whole life. Today I sanded some surface rust from the trunk compartment and coated with rust-oleum primer getting ready to rubber coat after it all cures for a few days. Thanks again for the help.

The factory color is silver. Is the red on just the valve covers, or the entire engine? Maybe it has had some work? Both are good little engines, parts are readily available.
