RobertKB Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 As Arte Johnson would say, "Verrrry interessssting". It is amazing you had any brakes at all. As for pumping your brake pedal every week when your car is sitting, it is a good idea. Moves fluid around a bit which probably helps prevent pitting and also builds your residual pressure up which helps with stopping leakage. I do my cars all the time when they sit and do not have problems. Touch wood. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 It's not only a good idea to touch the brake pedal from time to time for the cylinders, but it's also good to actually move the car to operate all the brake parts. Rust does not just form on the wheel cylinders, but also inside the drum or on rotors if you have disc brakes. By moving the car and actually using the brake, it keeps the rust off those parts too. In fact, it's a good idea to move the whole car for lubricating all seals everywhere. I hate it when my cars have to sit for months at a time over the winter. Can't wait for spring and some green! Jim Saraceno Posted February 24, 2009 Report Posted February 24, 2009 When I rebuilt my brake system last fall, my rear cylinder looked similar. I'm sure neither of them were working. Quote
