rockerbillykat Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 Hi all! Well today in Melbourne,we had a top temp of 48 degrees celceus, hot, wild northerly winds and fires! We have lost 6 houses a couple of streets behind us this afternoon, burnt too the ground. To the north of us,there has been up to 50 houses and farms lost, along with a couple of fire trucks and one firefighter has received burns too 50 % of his body! Fire bombing helicopters are woking hard as are ground crews! The kicker to all this is..........wait for it.........most of these fire we deliberately lit! Anyway, didnt get any thing done on the Dodge today, it was a little hot! Quote
PatS.... Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 I sure hope you stay out of the line of fire so to speak. Can't quite imagine 48c...it's a balmy ONEc here and that's a nice day!!!! Hate to see what happens to the firebug if he gets caught by the victims of the fires he set. Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted February 7, 2009 Report Posted February 7, 2009 We get that kind of temp each Summer, the best thing to do when its that hot is to stay inside & try to stay cool. This is our Average Summer High & Low, High: 109.6o Low: 74.8o Dennis:cool: Quote

Aussie D25 Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 Hey kat we're feelin the heat up in NSW now too, We are watching a fire at Peats Ridge just south of us here on the Central Coast. no evacuation yet but if we get a southerly this arvo ("afternoon" for those that aren't Australian) many houses will be in trouble.... as per your situation there has been a lot of activity in the sky with water bombing. Its ridiculously hot .... a friend from work left a can of coke in his car ... guess who has a new "candy" coat for their interior ... that's right KA-BOOM! Coke everywhere. Send us some snow US brethren cause my sideburns are damn near melting off my face !!! Quote
Andydodge Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 The latest news is 65 people killed and over 600 houses burnt to the ground in the northern part of the state of Victoria.......I'm in Grafton, in northern New South Wales, about 1000 miles nth of it but have lived in bushfire areas and its not a pleasant experience........Andy Douglas Quote
Tony WestOZ Posted February 8, 2009 Report Posted February 8, 2009 It is certainly a sad state of affairs in Australia at the moment. Southern parts (Victoria) are having some the worst fires ever, northern parts (Queensland) are under water with record floods. Mother Nature can certainly be a hard task master at times. Quote
mackster Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 How are you all doing tonite? I saw the pictures on the news and they sure look scary. . .. Stay safe and get as far away as possible. Quote
Tony WestOZ Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Tony, did you check the CD website? the CD website? Quote
Normspeed Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 It was on our news again today. Having lived in Southern California for many years, I thought I had seen some bad fires, but the Australian fires are so much worse. Quote
Tony WestOZ Posted February 9, 2009 Report Posted February 9, 2009 Unfortunatly is up to 173 lives lost, with 1000+ houses gone, and more to come. Sad days indeed. Quote
Aussie D25 Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 Just an update, The main fire near my place has been contained after an unexpected thunder storm lastnight. I wish I could send some rain to the guys in Victoria Quote
moparjack44 Posted February 10, 2009 Report Posted February 10, 2009 Anyone heard an update on rockabilly? Hope he is safe and OK. Jackie Quote
rockerbillykat Posted February 11, 2009 Author Report Posted February 11, 2009 Sorry i didnt get back earlier,im okay where we live. As i said earlier, six houses were burnt down near where i live as these backed onto open paddocks that caught fire, i live in an outer east suburb of melbourne! The devistation that has occured is in country victoria, so far 181 people have been killed in the fires, 1033 homes burnt down, 400,000 hectares of land destroyed and there are still major fires burning, two may join if the wind changes direction too create a large fire front! Two country towns called King Lake and Marysville have been levelled in these fires. Marysville has been declared a crime scene, as many as 1 in 5 residents were killed as the fire tore through! Bodies have been found in the street, unable to out run the fires! These little towns were so beautiful, all gone now! Ive been watching the news reports and its so sad to see the damage that has been caused. The pain the survivors are going through could never be imagined! They have lost so much! Anyway as i said im ok, i just feel so bad for these other peoples loss! Quote
moparjack44 Posted February 11, 2009 Report Posted February 11, 2009 Sorry for the deaths and destruction. Glad you are OK. Jackie Quote
