Jim Saraceno Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 Wow, it has been a long time since I've been here. Everything has changed. Looks good! Anyway, it is January and time to start the heavy duty jobs on "Bluebelle" and this is the year I'm going to swap out the old engine for the one I rebuilt last year. Before I can pull the engine, I need to pull the transmission and before I can pull the transmission, I need to pull the propeller shaft. I disconnected the propeller shaft at the transmission end and can pull it back just enough to clear the rear flange on the transmission, but because the cross of the "X" frame is so close to where the shaft attaches to the tranny, there is no room to either lift the shaft above the tranny nor drop it below it. I'm afraid that if I unbolt the tranny at this point, I won't have the clearance for the drive pinion to clear the rear of the clutch housing. So the question is, can I remove the transmission now or do I need to unbolt the driveshaft at the rear where it bolts to the differential? Quote
Reg Evans Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 Yeah...I would just go ahead and remove the drive shaft all together and service the U joints while it's out. Quote
greg g Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 Put some reference marks at least on the shaft and diffy connection so you can put it back on in the same position. Quote
Jim Saraceno Posted January 8, 2007 Author Report Posted January 8, 2007 Thanks, will do. BTW, when you are talking about servicing the U joints, would it be standard procedure to replace the body as well at the boots and service kit or are there tests to determine if only certain parts should be replaced?
