I'm in the process of finishing the interior of my 48 Coupe and before I put the seats back in I want to put in some carpet, black. What kind of money am I looking at and who do you recommend?

Dan......who belongs to that phone number? Someone in your area?

I'm looking for some upholstry material I like for the convert.

I bought my carpet at a place which sells automotive upholstry materials.

Just bought so many yards of the carpet on a roll, plus you need some vinyl material

to make the edging. And some padding to go under it. And that squarish piece

that goes below the pedals to protect the carpet from your feet.

Then I had a guy at an auto upholstry shop cut and fit the carpet to the car.

Bought enough so I could have the trunk floor done to match.

I think he charged me $250 for his labor to install. Did a nice job.

One thing he did was -- made a cut in the carpet on the drivers'

side where you can fold it back to access the master cylinder without

having to lift up the entire left side of the carpet.

He also glued the carpet to the padding, but did not (to my knowledge) glue

the padding to the floor. Lots easier to remove if necessary, but keeps the

two items together.

You could probably get more replys if you show on your profile where you are. Here, there is a really good upholstery guy, very reasonable, but no good to you if he's 3000 miles away  .

For my DeSoto, at a local flooring place I found a car and boat carpet that was a close match to the original hogshair carpet, with tight loops and promiment rows. (Fair-Way Tile and Carpet, Clawson, Michigan, 248.588.4429, a small outfit with excellent reputation.)

I'm in southern Minnesota and looking for a cut and sewn carpet made for the p15. Doesn't have to be perfectly original, but I don't want the hassle of all the cutting and fitting. I checked the archives but didn't have much luck.

I bought my cut and sewn carpet from AutoCraft Interiors. Fit real nice. It also has vinyl edging around it but that is tucked in under the sill plate, kick panels and firewall insulation, so you can see that. In addition it has a vinyl foot pad like the one in BobT's picture, but you can't see that because I have a set of matching floor mats covering it. The pad that comes with it looks like BobT's. Installation is easy, the holes for the clutch, brake and gas pedals are all marked with chalk when you get it. Just take a knife and make the holes then remove the pedal pads and slip the carpet over the shafts. I did not glue mine down either, nor glue the pad to the carpet. It's not necessary to do that, it will stay in place without the glue.

By the way, I think JC Whitney's carpet is the same carpet you would get from AutoCraft. JC Whitney also sells AutoCraft seat covers. It's also cheaper to buy the pre-cut and sewn carpet than it is to have it made up at a local shop.

I've heard the JC Whitney carpets are a pretty good deal.

I used a J C Whitney carpet in my 51. Can't remember the price but it was reasonable, had to trim here and there but overall it fit pretty good. Seems to be holding up well.

Got carpet from Kanters for 48 D24 club coupe, a little over $200. This is my second carpet set from Kanters as I used them for carpet in 41 Chrysler Windsor Sedan.

Yes, seats need to be out of the car. Put all the seat mounting bolts back in where they go. It very hard to find there location( of the holes) after you get the carpet in. Remove door sills. When you get your new carpet lay it out and inspect it and let the folds relax before you start installing it. Don't glue your carpet down to the padding. That's how I did it.

The Original Hogs Hair Carpet is available through Bill Hirsh in Newark NJ

The Phone Number is 973-642-2404.

It is expensive about $75 a square yard.

To do the bottom of the rear foot rest, bottom of doors, back and front would be about 7-8 Square Yards, one would also need lacing/edging to

finish out the doors and carpet. Send them a sample color of your interior and

ask for grey or brown Hogs Hair sample they mail it to you free.

Its the real deal - original materials if your a purist like myself.

Otherwise any nice Carpet will do.
