aero3113 Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 I received my LED bulbs today and the bayonets were offset when they should be even. I called www.autolumination.com and they said that I could file down the top bayonet so it will fit which I did and it fit fine with no play at all. I tested the brakes and the LED did not light. I only have one led in the left brake light the other brake light has the regular bulb. Do you think I need both LED'S in for them to work? I did not want to file down the other one in case I was to return them. Do you test these bulbs like a regular bulb? I tested the bulb and get no reading. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 first, check the offset in the socket to ensure that when twisted and locked into position that the contacts align..in my experience when Ihave have upgraded all my sockets I have had to re-index the contacts... Quote
aero3113 Posted January 10, 2009 Author Report Posted January 10, 2009 They are indexed the same here is a pic. The LED'S contacts are oval, do you think I should file them down to match the regular bulb? Do they test the same with a meter like a regular bulb? Quote
aero3113 Posted January 10, 2009 Author Report Posted January 10, 2009 I took out the socket on the car to get a better look and it looks like the contacts are touching as they should. I don't know whats wrong, I find it weird that when I test the bulb I get no reading (not sure if this is normal unlike a regular bulb) Still not sure if I should file and put the other LED in the other brake and see if thats the problem (might need both LED's to work?) JerseyHarold Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Maybe wrong polarity? Our cars are 6V positive ground and an LED only lets current flow one way. Quote
aero3113 Posted January 10, 2009 Author Report Posted January 10, 2009 The site says they are Fully Regulated - Non-Polar Proprietary Circuitry what does that mean? Quote
JerseyHarold Posted January 10, 2009 Report Posted January 10, 2009 Sounds like they don't care about the polarity of the circuit they're plugged into. Maybe the barrel of your socket is worn or corroded so you're not getting a good ground? Quote
aero3113 Posted January 10, 2009 Author Report Posted January 10, 2009 The socket looks brand new, I just hooked them up to the battery using some wires and they lit up. Quote
aero3113 Posted January 11, 2009 Author Report Posted January 11, 2009 Dont ask me how but they are working now, I turned the bulb 180 deg in the socket and it worked! I did that earlier and it didnt work. Got me Quote
55 Fargo Posted January 11, 2009 Report Posted January 11, 2009 Hey Aero, are they way brighter than the regular incandesant bulbs. I was just outside with the 47, my incandesant look darn good and bright from behind in the dark. The LEDs should be way brighter I would imagine, and how about in daylight, would the LEDs be a lot easier to see for traffic from behind. I plan to convert my tailights to stop lights also via some circuitry, that way the stop lamp and the tail lights will illuminate when the brakes are applied.........Thanx Fred Quote
aero3113 Posted January 11, 2009 Author Report Posted January 11, 2009 To tell you the truth I don't think they are much brighter when the lights are on but when I step on the brakes I think they are brighter. Quote
