BobT-47P15 Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 Dennis......what fun is that hemi???? You can hardly see it for all the accessory items--- belts, pulleys, air cleaner, A/C,etc on top of it. There was a guy up in Kansas City who bought a nice P15 convertible on ebay maybe 3 years ago......a light grey one from Texas. It was original with the flathead six. So, he takes it home, proceeds to put some V8 and all the goodies into it......not sure what all things he did to it. Looked like nice work. Well, anyway, I ran into him at a swap meet later......he was telling us he wants to sell the car because the top makes too much noise when he drives it down the road at 85 miles per hour. Maybe the soup-up isn't always such a good idea. Just my 2 centavos worth. Quote
blueskies Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 The only thing that car needs is a Early Hemi. Then he would get more mags to cover car and a feature story in Good Guys. Very nice car well done! My guess is that Howard will have a ball with the flatty. I'd also bet there is crowd under the hood every time he opens it up. Anyone can have a Hemi, but only a few are willing to go the extra mile to build a show stopper flathead six. Pete Quote
T120 Posted December 30, 2008 Report Posted December 30, 2008 I don't know if you noticed, but we like flatheads here. ....he said,as he cast his line out into the placid pool;) Quote
Frank Elder Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 Moparalltheway, I was just funnin', we all have our favorites. Fatheads and flatheads can get along, by the way nice ride! Quote
Normspeed Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 I bought this one to put in my wagon, befor I even had the wagon. But, there it sits in a corner of the garage. Some day I'd like to install it in an early dodge hiboy roadster. Quote
moparalltheway Posted December 31, 2008 Report Posted December 31, 2008 If you want a real crowd show stopper put a early hemi in it. The real hemi. No not one of those modern hemi's. Well maybe a new modern crate hemi 392 with mega chrome and h.p. And no not anybody can have a hemi they all just want one. Just ask the Ford guy's. Now that's a pipe smoker. Quote

Howard Tarnoff Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 does anyone know which headers howard used they look sweet !!!: Hi, first sorry for the silence over the last several months. The head is from Earl Edgerton and the headers are the Real Fenton's. Some other questions about what has transpired. Engine; as Blueskies wrote the engine ran 10 minutes and was assumed good until we pulled the oil pan for repaint and bingo, there was the shot peen. So along with everything exclusive of the clock it was redone for the second time. Transmission; I bought a rebuilt overdrive from Western Tranmission. It sat for four years so again no warranty. Drove the car to the first show in July at Dedham MA and cracked a gear shaft on the way home. We then bought a non overdrive transmission from a bone yard and put that in to keep me on the road while the guys got new gears and rebuilt my overdrive. We discovered that two of the gears installed by Western had FORD part numbers. Yikes. All is well in that regard. The first shop removed the pivot arm from the frame for the shift linkage when I was trying to get the Floor shift to work. It would not with the OD so the pivot arm needed to be welded back and they put that on wrong, creating non-positive meshing of the gears and that is what took the rebuild of the OD transmission out again. So I had it rebuilt the second time. Keep in mind I went with the OD because I did not want to spend the money for the Tremic 5 speed I wont tell anyone how much I now have invested in my transmission. I was in Rhinebeck with the loaner and then the car went back to Xtreme in RI for the punch list and we picked it up the morning I left for FL. Never got the neutral safty switch installed but we did get the parking brake working with the Ford 9" read disc's. I have been driving the car all over FL for the last couple of months and will be taking it off the road in a week or two to do the detailing required for the ISCA show in Detroit. Xtreme is picking the car up and returning it to me here in that it is going there for their benefit, I am not chasing any more awards in my life. In fact we have not been to one trophy show here, just the Turkey run and cruise ins. HT Quote
