bamfordsgarage Posted December 2, 2008 Report Posted December 2, 2008 I have a Canadian 1947 Dodge D25 which I understand to be similar to the American P15 in many respects, including the dashboard and control layout. Can someone please tell me what optional item/control occupied the lower left spot beside the defroster knob? I have just installed this clock and would like to complete the dash if possible. Thank you. Quote
oldmopar Posted December 2, 2008 Report Posted December 2, 2008 owners manual lists it as a heater temperature control knob Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted December 2, 2008 Report Posted December 2, 2008 Possibly a "temperature control" to shut off or partly shut off the water valve under the hood at the right rear corner of the engine. Looks like you have the "heater fan" and "defroster" knobs. Not all cars had that valve.....some you just turned the knob on the connector on the engine corner. That's what I do on mine. Quote
RobertKB Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 I see you live in Edmonton. Go Oilers!! I live in Lethbridge and have a D25 also. I also have the plug on the left side and do not know what it is for either. I see you have the Lighter on the right side which I am missing. Hopefully someone on this board can answer your question as there are very few questions that go unanswered here. Got a picture of your car as I would be interested in seeing it? The D25 is an interesting car. I have taken mine down to meets in Montana and people there look at it and know something is not right. It's not a Plymouth but sure does look like one but.......it has a Dodge hood ornament, hubcaps, grill, etc. Quote
bamfordsgarage Posted December 3, 2008 Author Report Posted December 3, 2008 Old Mopar and BobT, thanks for your replies. Mystery solved! I have the temperature/water valve on the right-rear corner of the head, but no apparent means of connecting to an inside control. Robert, nice pic, nice car. I will post some photos of mine, but first, how do you get the large format photo embedded in your post, instead of just a thumbnail? Quote
RobertKB Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 When you reply just go to the little mountain looking thingy and it will say insert image. It will then ask for a URL. I use photobucket and go there, copy the appropriate URL, and paste. Looking forward to pics of your car. Thumbnail is OK to although it just requires an extra step. Quote
Brendan D25 Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 When my 1948 D25 was bought new it was fitted with an optional backup light and the lighted switch is mounted on the left where yours is blank. Brendan. Quote
bamfordsgarage Posted December 3, 2008 Author Report Posted December 3, 2008 I don't use Photobucket, so it will have to be thumbnails. Here are three photos, taken in 1953, 1971, and last month. The car was purchased new in Vancouver in 1947 by a couple who later retired to southern Saskatchewan. They drove it until 1975 when they traded it in on a new Ford pickup. The dealer allowed them $1,000 allowance for the old Dodge, repainted it the same colour, then gave the car to his son, from whom I purchased it in 1991 with about 54,000 miles showing. I drove it about 15,000 miles during my 17 years ownership, never more than 100 miles from home. Then last month my buddy and I went on a wonderful 5,400 mile road trip through the western US. The 2008 picture was taken in the Utah desert, on an early trail around the top of the Great Salt Lake. Quote
bamfordsgarage Posted December 3, 2008 Author Report Posted December 3, 2008 Brendan, that's an excellent idea. Thanks -- I've been contemplating the install of a back-up light, and the spot is perfect for the switch. Quote
oldmopar Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Great history of the car and photos Ed Quote
1940plymouth Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Thanks for posting the old black and white and colored photos, I througly enjoy looking at the old photos. You should post a story about your trip, it would make for very interesting reading by all of us Quote
Normspeed Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 I love that shot in Utah. These great old cars are fearless, they will travel any road you can come up with. Quote
steveplym Posted December 3, 2008 Report Posted December 3, 2008 Very neat car! Glad you enjoyed your trip through the West. That must have been a really neat trip in the old Dodge. Welcome to the site. Quote
