woodscavenger Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 Who has a T5 in a Pilothouse? I installed the T5 in the PH truck. The clutch disc is from an 89 GMC Safari 11" package. I installed the machined pilot bearing and throwout bearing sleeve. My engine is still only partially put together so in order to test thing I am turning the front pulley by hand. When the tranny is in gear and the clutch pedal pushed to the floor the drive shaft still spins when the front pulley is turned. I have the front clutch adjustment bolt turned as deep as I can which I believe gives me the most pedal throw. What do I do? Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 What do I do? Nothing. The oil in the transmission will make the driveshaft turn in your experment. Quote
woodscavenger Posted November 18, 2008 Author Report Posted November 18, 2008 I don't think I understand. When you say oil in the tranny that makes me think of an automatic. This is the T5 manual. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 Another easier test for complete clutch disengagement is by leaving the trans in gear /clutch pedal pushed in fully and grabbing the trans rear output splined driveshaft yoke on rear of trans or E-brake drum and you should be able to turn it by hand -the effort to turn the trans from output end requires some effort depending on what gear it`s in. You definately should be able to turn it, you might hear the clutch disc slightly "whisk" the flywheel/clutch plate but very slightly if at all. All this just to see if the clutch releases! Bob Quote
Merle Coggins Posted November 18, 2008 Report Posted November 18, 2008 Yes, it's probably parasitic friction that allows the tail shaft to spin with the trans in neutral and the clutch depressed. To find out for sure, try holding the tail shaft while you turn the engine, or try what Bob said. Merle Quote
