John Burke Posted December 25, 2006 Report Posted December 25, 2006 We have been working, off and on, in setting up the AC in my D-30 project. I purchased a kit from Vintage Air. I told them what it was going into and they sent me kind of a "universal" kit. Istalling the compresor was a bit tight as I had to relieve the inner fender panel. Also to go was the radio and the glove box. I will rework the radio grill and reinstall. The glove box I will have to manufacture an abreviated version to put back in. The hoses for the defrosters were to small to fit over the stock vents,m BUT, they did fit inside really nice...A little duck tape and another problem solved. The air conditioner lines came with bulkhead fittings for the firewall but not the radiator hoses so I used some rubber, PCV grommets from Car Quest. A couple of 1.25" holes in the fire wall and these fit right in and the hole was a nice fit on the hose. nWe put a little black silicone around the hose where they went through for good measure. There is more to go but so far there have been no real problems. CAUTION!!! this is not a job for old, fat guys. Thank you Jesus for young, skinny nephews...John Quote
wldavis3 Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 John, That installation is going to look really nice under the dash. But like you say, behind the dash is going to be very crowded. Good luck with it. It is great for you that you have some young guys to help you with it. It will, surely, be of benefit to them down the road some day. Quote
48mirage Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 I like the idea of putting AC in my D30, but I notice your motor might be a little bigger than mine. Quote
greg g Posted December 26, 2006 Report Posted December 26, 2006 There are a few folks running flatties with aftermarket AC. It can be done. Use of a small import car type compressors make it pretty easy on the HP drain. Quote
John Burke Posted December 26, 2006 Author Report Posted December 26, 2006 the new compressors they have now pull very little hp so i am sure a 6-hole flattie would handle it with ease....John Quote
pflaming Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 John, it's been a while since toy installed your AC. How has it worked out. Quote
pflaming Posted August 30, 2015 Report Posted August 30, 2015 I was unaware of johns passing. So then I will divert the question to those who have a few years on their a/c's. How are your installations working out? Quote
