PatS.... Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 From an ad in Kijiji. http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicles-parts-accessories-Dodge-Flathead-W0QQAdIdZ74781109 Guy is swapping a DeSoto Hemi into his nice green Pilothouse and had no use for this, so I guess I was first to answer the ad...or the only answer? Don't know. He told me to come by about noon and it should be just about out, and he was right. Straight into the back of my Ram p.u. on the new engine stand. He says it runs and It looks good, turns freely and comes with all the accessories. I went and procured a 24 of Bud to make the rest of their day a bit brighter. I told him about the Pilothouse site, so he may drop by...his name is Barry. Thanks Barry!!! The engine number begins with IND so it's not original. I'll check the stroke to figure out what it is. Now to figure out how to get it OFF the truck:eek: In was offered the front axle and springs and the rear end as opposed to it going to the scrapper. No idea what I'll do with 'em but can't have them going to China as scrap. Quote
james curl Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 Now if you can figure how to mount the bell housing into your car it can be drilled for a T-5 transmission and get Langdons adapter ring to close the hole to T-5 size and you should be in business from what I understand about the trucks. JerseyHarold Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 Great find! Why can't I ever be that lucky.... Quote
steveplym Posted September 20, 2008 Report Posted September 20, 2008 Pretty nice find there Pat. Looks like it has the screw on oil filter adapter too. With that price you can't go wrong. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Pat, do you happen to know anyone who drives a pickup or work truck with one of those small cranes mounted on the bed??? Kind of like a cherry picker. There's a fellow down the street from me who recently bought his old work truck......it has one of those. I asked if he would sometime be willing to help me get an engine moved - he said he would. That little crane can probably lift a complete engine. Quote
PatS.... Posted September 21, 2008 Author Report Posted September 21, 2008 Bob, I know a guy with a tow truck with a boom, but he's away til Monday. No rush...the old Ram sure rides nice with that thing back there One of those cranes would come in real handy more often that you think. I'll have to check into it now that I can't quite do what I used to. Quote
grady hawkins Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 Is that a spin on oil filter?? Grady Quote
Frank Elder Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 STEVEPLYM, You sound like you are very familiar with the spin on filter adapter, Is this a discontinued aftermarket item, or can it still be found? FRANKIE47 Quote
Don Coatney Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 STEVEPLYM, You sound like you are very familiar with the spin on filter adapter, Is this a discontinued aftermarket item, or can it still be found?FRANKIE47 Spin on filter adaptors are redily available as after market items from several vendors. Spin on filter elements are designed for full flow systems. Using these filters in a by-pass aplication will work but just not as well. The media particulate size is larger. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 If you don't have an engine hoist you probably could rent one someplace to get it off the truck. Or, since the engine is on a stand rig up a ramp with a couple of boards and roll it off the truck. Nice find. Quote

PatS.... Posted September 21, 2008 Author Report Posted September 21, 2008 I would think changing that filter would make one muck of a fess!!! Would be better right side up. The engine is on that stand but the stand will barely move with both engine and trans, and it's not bolted down so a ramp would be almost impossible. Besides, the stand is Made in China!!!! Like it would survive a trip down a ramp!!! Hunk O' Crap! Quote

It appears that that stand could be easily converted to a "live" test stand where one could run an engine prior to installing the engine in a vehicle. Per some of the recent postings on severe problems with recently professionally rebuilt engines with severe oil leakage ect. problems I once again recommend building a live test stand and running an engine prior to the install. I did so and am glad I did. My engine is running in this picture. Quote
Olddaddy Posted September 21, 2008 Report Posted September 21, 2008 I've got a free one here, 218 with tranny. It's free till the scrap man shows up. Near Orlando. Quote
Normspeed Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 You guys are killing me with this free stuff! I've missed two in southern CA recently. Don't really need another 218, I have a spare on the stand, but I'd love to grab up one or two 3-speed trannys. Quote

It's from a truck, though. Quote

Normspeed Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Don, how in the world did you fit that box fan between the grille and radiator in your rig? Quote
mackster Posted September 22, 2008 Report Posted September 22, 2008 Fan heck, I want to know how he got that cooler in. it's easy really... I know he must of left it open for the AC to function properly, then all fell into place... Quote
