Reg Evans Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 Old Yeller ('52) has an older brother now. Older Yeller is a '49 1/2 ton and in pretty decent shape. It runs well and stops ok here in the driveway. I'll take it on a test drive after I give it the once over. So far my list of parts needed include the lower stainless grill bar, choke and throttle knob and cables, interior sun visors, and (4) 15 or 16" rims with hub cap clips. Anybody interested in the 50's Chevy wheel covers on the truck now? The PO is a Chevy man. I like Older Yellers high sided bed and the side mounted spare and the fact that finding a model 602 radio is going to be very easy to find unlike the mythical model 610T for the 51-53 models . All I gotta do is walk out into the garage and pick one of the many I have collected . So....if you have any of those parts available let me know. Quote
buds truck Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 Got The Choke, Throttle Knobs And Cables And 5 15 Inch Wheels With Hub Cap Clips Off My 53 B3b. Bud Quote
Reg Evans Posted August 22, 2008 Author Report Posted August 22, 2008 Bud, How much do you want for the rims and cables. Photos ? email direct. regoevans@sbcglobal.net Thanks Quote
woodscavenger Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 It's already half way to a good two tone paint job! Where do you find all of these? Quote
Reg Evans Posted August 22, 2008 Author Report Posted August 22, 2008 How'd ya guess Shane !?! How's your project coming along ? My plan before I do anything with the paint is to give it a coat of black primer on the fenders and running boards to see what it would look like. I found this one on Craigslist 2.5 hours away from me and the seller delivered it for the cost of fuel only. I gave him a 20 for a tip so he could buy dinner on the way home. Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 22, 2008 Report Posted August 22, 2008 Reg; You have a knack for finding all the good deals. You can probably sell the chuby hubcaps to pay for the truck:D Quote
Reg Evans Posted August 23, 2008 Author Report Posted August 23, 2008 Well Don....is it a knack or a curse Hey.....I'll give you first crack at them chivy caps. Any offer accepted unless I have to pay you. I always have fun dragging these poor old neglected mopars home and straightening out what the po has done or hasn't done to them. The timing was advanced about 20 degrees. #6 plug wire didn't have a crimped end on the dist. end and the engine was telling me about it. The idle was set at about 1000rpm to keep it running. I still have to deal with the carb. It runs when the idle screw is turned all the way in and the accelerator pump isn't squirting any gas. There are 3 different kinds of spark plugs installed too. I just got back from the parts store with 6 new AC 45's and will test the compression before these go in. No knocks or smoke from the engine. Oh...the engine turns out to be a 230 out of a 51 1 ton. I'll report back later with the results of the compression test. This is almost better than sex. I just wrote that cause my wife might be looking. Quote
Reg Evans Posted August 23, 2008 Author Report Posted August 23, 2008 For an engine that has been sitting since 1990 the compression test results were pretty good. 1 - 6 went like this. 92,105,105,96,102,102. Maybe a little Bon Ami is in order. The old plug gaps ranged from .25 to .40. It turned out that only 2 types of plugs were there. The new AC45R's are at .35. It looks like a new head gasket has been installed so I'd better re torque the head too. Quote
IanT_Qld Posted August 23, 2008 Report Posted August 23, 2008 Its hard not to share your excitment, I recently bought a T143 from Beau_The_Aussie (thanks) and it was a joy to take it home and just put it near the truck, thousands wouldn't understand. Hmm..... I should do a search and find out how to get it running while on a pallet. Quote
Johnny S Posted August 24, 2008 Report Posted August 24, 2008 Nice find Reg .... if I keep looking and reading about these Pilot-house pickups long enough I'm gunna have to catch me one. Quote
48Dodger Posted August 27, 2008 Report Posted August 27, 2008 Hey Reg, I got a crappy old grille bar that might be a saved by a licenced Grillebarologist...but I can't make any promises. It'll hold you over til the perfect one shows up on ebay. I'll put it in the mail for you ASAP. No charge. Its the least I could do, you gave me hub caps. 48D Quote
Reg Evans Posted August 27, 2008 Author Report Posted August 27, 2008 Thanks Tim ! You da man. Looking forward to the second annual get together at your spread? Quote
48Dodger Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 Ok....this is an old thread but there's enough going on to update it. Reg sold Older Yeller to a member here, Tom. Tom used the sheet metal for his build which didnt utilize the frame and motor. I got the frame and motor free cuz Tom sold his house and needed to git it gone. Drove 2 hours to Tom's house with my trailer and picked it up. My bother bought a 50 1/2 ton with a frozen 218 in it. We're gonna use the Older Yeller motor in it. pulling the 230 motor off the frame this weekend. The B1BQ sits on a tube frame/stand I made. We're gonna use Old Yeller's frame to build the new B1BQ set-up. This way I can take the BBQ Truck to the "people"...lol. Reg reduced the price of the truck because he was planning on getting the motor back since Tom wasn't gonna use it. BUT because of the sale of Tom's house, things had to move fast. We're buying the motor from Reg to keep our Karma clean. I've tried to get parts for Tom, to return the favor of free stuff. But so far I havent been able to fill an order..... 48D Quote
buds truck Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 keep the karma going....... I could sure use the door handle off the B1BQ..... Quote
Reg Evans Posted May 5, 2011 Author Report Posted May 5, 2011 Oh cool....at least the heart of Older Yeller still lives. That's good news! I hated letting the truck go to the new owner once I learned of his plans for the truck. Tim.....Karma tickets happily accepted now that I've been put out to pasture (retired) Quote
