  1. that is awesome. I have definitely decided to forget about my old manifolds and get something more fun (but I will keep them). This will be expensive but not as expensive as I thought (at least for some scenarios). Thanks again for the awesome pictures. My initial setup won't be nearly as pretty but it will evolve. Rebecca
  2. you use a giant belt sander. Rebecca
  3. You will also noticed that my throttle linkage is different than everybody else. It is a large bar that runs horrizontally across the firewall behind the engine and then a linkage attaches to that on the right side of the engine. There is a bolt on the top of the head where I figure linkage stuff can be anchored as well. I think that mine is set up like a 36 Plymouth (the way my car was originally) and all later cars had what you guys had. I could convert to that instead if it made converting to dual carbs easier. Rebecca
  4. Where did you get the Langdons cast iron headers. What did that cost. Is that offenhauser intake with that. Is the bottom of the intake where it bolts to the heat riser box just got a plate on it? Where did you get those valve covers. Those are cool. You guys have all given me some great ideas. There is no going back now. I am definately doing something interesting and I want a dual 2" exhaust (but I know it won't sound like my Desoto - it will still be cool). Rebecca
  5. The neck for the aircleaner to clamp on mine is pretty large. I thought that I had an older carter but am I mistaken? If I go for dual I suspect that I should make sure that they are exactly the same carb number. My engine is a 230. Rebecca Rebecca
  6. That sounds great. That is what I am hoping for. Thanks. Rebecca
  7. Wow, that is pretty much what I would like to do. Did you split your manifold or is there someone out there that offers this service? Were the carbs hard to find? Do you like them. I am surprised you can operate without chokes. I think that i would want manual chokes. I am thinking that I should really overhaul my old manifolds and at least get my car running with what I have before I start spending money on fun stuff but it is really tempting to just do it now. It appears that the offy is bolt compatible with the stock manifold so I suppose I could go that route. Also, I suspect that I could initially use my same one carb and block off the second one just to get it running. I am thinking that the smart thing to do would be to start stock then modify. By the way, I just discovered the vintagepowerwagons.com web site parts section. they have some stuff that I did not see anywhere else (such as crank handles, and copper crush washers) and NOS oil pans. Rebecca
  8. Can I see pictures? What carbs did you use? What did you do for exhaust. Thanks, Rebecca
  9. I also want them to resurface them. Rebecca
  10. Does anyone have a machine shop recommendation in the Boston area (preferably in Woburn/Burlington area or reasonable distance from there). Some already recommended MCS in Marlboro but that would be a bit of a haul during my lunch break. I just need to give them my manifolds to have them separate them, sand blast it (prep for paint) and re-surface it. Rebecca
  11. I don't remember what I bought. I hope it is 160 deg. I don't have heat, I would rather have it run cooler. Rebecca
  12. sounds good. I can see that you don't need to drill a hole. Thanks for the pics. Rebecca
  13. Do you like the NAPA one better than the old style one. On my Buick I had to drill a vent hole in the one from NAPA because it was missing. I will check to see if I got a gasket. On the phone they told me that on the older engines it was not needed but hopefully they sent it anyway. Thanks. I hope that I can get paint to stick to my new pump. Other pumps that i have bought in the past had primer on them. This one seems to have a light machine oil residue on it that I will need to get off with a solvent before painting. Rebecca
  14. my thermostat looks like the one pictured on this page: http://www.oldmoparts.com/j.htm Rebecca
  15. That thermostat does not look anything like mine. I will post a picture tonight. Also, I don't think that mine uses a gasket. I will post pics of what I have tonight. Rebecca
  16. I am pretty sure that I have the 36 Plymouth cooling system components on my 52 Dodge motor (36 Plymouth that has 320 CI Dodge truck block but accessories of original 36 Plymouth engine). I am pretty sure I understand why my new water pump looks slightly different than the orignal one (see pictures below). You can see from my pictures which cooling system I have. In the pictures of my new water pump you can see where my bipass neck connects there is a round threaded hole instead of the square hole on my original pump. 1) Is this because in some applications there is just a pipe threaded on there instead of a bolted neck (but this is a general purpose pump). The new one came with a plug that i can use to cap off the heat (my old pump did not have support for heat I don't think). 2) What is the best sealant to use. I seem to have just about every kind of sealant in my shop but I never am quite sure which one to use. I have some blue rtv that indicates that it is good for cooling components. Is this what you recommend? It seems like it could be hard to get this water pump to block surfaces to be water tight (compared to how the pump installed on my Buick straight 8 anyway). See second message for rest of pics (exceeded max for this message) Rebecca
  17. yeah, that is the look that I am going for. Yours look pretty much like the ones that I ordered. Hopefully they will fit. they were not expensive either (.50 each). Rebecca
  18. Yeah, I might just do that. After using some stripper I should be able to clean it up real nice. Rebecca
  19. Yes, it is a little like brain surgery. I did the same thing with my Buick. I have ordered woven spark plug wires! I found some bolt covers (they were almost too cheap so I don't know yet if they are good): http://www.thehotrodcompany.com/shopnow/show_item.asp?product_id=91010115 Rebecca
  20. I just used plasti-cote engine enamel. I would have preferred to use Hirsch auto paint but I was too impatient to wait until I got the paint because it is getting colder and colder and I wanted to patin before it got too cold. As it was it was kind of moist day to paint. I hope it cured ok. Rebecca
  21. It is possible that I missed it. The ones that I found in the hw store were brass. I am assuming that since it sticks in to the combustion chamber than I should make sure to get steel like the original. Rebecca
  22. My project from this weekend:
  23. I just painted my engine and I wanted to replace some of the old hardware. It appears that the plug over cylinder 6 is steel. The only ones that I seem to be able to find locally are brass. Does anyone have an idea where I might be able to find a new one mail order. I could take the time to strip and clean the one that I have but if it was easy to find i was just going to repalce it. I know that this sounds like a frivolous endevour. Any ideas where I might find it? I was going to be at my local machine shop this week, they might know a local place that sells this type of plugs.
