  1. I got the brakes all hooked up and bled and built a brace for the proportioning valve to take stress off of the lines. Finally got her out for a drive with all the new goodies! She drives much better with all new steering. The combination of wide radials, disc brakes and a new master/prop valve made a huge difference in braking performance! Looks like she will be ready for the Route 66 Rendezvous in a few weeks.
  2. I have the stock flatty with the 3 speed and swapped in a 3.73 differential from a 54 Plymouth. As long as you dont wish to do 75+ out on the highway, she does pretty good on the freeways and long hauls. I stick to 60-65 and she cruises along just great and she pulls all the grades with ease. I drove her to Las Vegas last year with no issues. Maybe find an old Borg Warner R10 OD unit (my next project) and swap that in for some highway use or look into to T5 conversion. With a decent running flatty, that would keep you motoring along until you could save up for a V8 swap down the road if still desired after adding some much needed gears. BTW... Shoot that rig with some low gloss clear and preserve that awesome old patina paint job!
  3. Got the master cylinder and proportioning valve on today. I found that the Cherokee master cylinder was binding at the first bit of travel due to the design of the cylinder. So I changed to the GM style cylinder which is much more similar to the stock style. When everyone talks about using that Cherokee unit, they are talking about 53 and earlier which is very different than the 54+. Just a few more brake lines, bleed and tighten the front u-bolts and she should be ready for a test drive. Also as a side note, the GM style doesnt use the bubble flares. Just the standard double inverted that you can make in your garage!
  4. Today I got some more work done. Built a new tie rod because my old one was bent. Being an offroader, my new one is a bit beefier than the original... thats .250 wall DOM tubing!!! I prefer the jamb nuts over the pinch style thread locks. Got the Sids tie rod drop blocks and early Ford tie rod ends on, new stainless braided brake lines and installed new 3/16" hard lines.
  5. They were from a 53 Willy's. About $10 a piece at Rockauto.com and are a direct bolt up, just shorter. There is a thread asking about them with the actual link and part number. They won't work in the front as they would interfere with the tranny x-member. I just dropped the axle and removed one leaf. As for the steering, I hope to have it drivable this weekend. I have to bend the steering arm on the driver side down 3" so there will be no bump steer. Even though I haven't driven mine yet, I got the tips from Kevin Stubbs who has one with the same drop and kit. He has no issues. But I will report out when I get her on the road.
  6. I know mine is a few years newer, but the parking lights on mine operate the same way. Ohming out the switch and checking the schematic verified that was proper operation.
  7. Due to the bands playing this year... I will be there from Thursday to Sunday. This is a couple day event if you really want the full experience!
  8. There are plenty of raw or patina rides!
  9. It's a great show and weekend if you do the whole deal. Car show, concerts, pool party, burlesque shows, tattooing, bowling and the list goes on and on. It's a pinup/rockabilly fest! Last year the headliners at the car show were Brian Setzer and Dick Dale. It was a great time. This year, the headliners haven't been announced yet, but Wanda Jackson is performing inside the casino! That's a must see for me.
  10. BrentB3B... The Linq car show is prett good and used to be known as the Imperial Palace car collection. My other favorite is much smaller, but you can also visit the Carroll Shelby museum/factory.
  11. Viva Las Vegas 2017 isn't that far off for many of us who still have trucks under construction. Last year, I was the only 50's Dodge truck at the show with well over 500 entries. This year it seems there is a satin black C3 that I don't recognize from this forum and myself already registered. The first 500 cars registered get free entry to the show. There are live bands, vendors, cars and obviously the casino. Who is ready to come out and make a big Dodge showing? April 13-16 with the main show being on Saturday the 15th www.VivaLasVegas.net
  12. It is a Scarebird kit that uses Ranger rotors and GM metric calipers. I went with that over the other kit because it was bolt on instead of having to drill and tap the spindles. Having them freshly installed with the new axle, I really didn't want to pull the spindles back off. As for the rear, I am tossing around the idea of using explorer rear discs in the factory rear end. I already had to drill out the threads and press in studs for the aluminum wheels. Dropping a disc over that hub and fabbing up a caliper bracket would probably be fairly easy.
  13. Started cleaning up the steering arms and mocking up the new brakes. According to my calculations, it should stop 10 million times better. I could be wrong about the factor, I wasnt sure if I was supposed to divide or multiply by 1.21 jigawatts.
  14. Nope, 17x7 American Racing Torq Thrusts. Thanks!
  15. I will agree with Jeff, I also installed the Pertronix unit with the Flamethrower coil and am very happy with it. Super easy and a nice upgrade over stock. Allowed me to keep my 6V setup too!
  16. Thought it was about time for an updated pic in this thread...
  17. I got both sets from www.mcveighstruckspring.com. They were a good price and great customer service. They also had good prices on u-bolts which are hard to find in 1 3/4". Thanks for the compliment!
  18. Ok guys.... This is the first time out of the garage in a few months. Still a lot to finish up, but sitting on her own suspension again. I love the new stance and look!
  19. Just got my axle back from Nostalgia Sid! He added a 3" drop and installed new king pins and bushings. I cant wait to get her installed and the brakes on. Updates coming soon!!!
  20. Looks great! Nice job and always nice to see another C1 on the board!
  21. That is pretty cool! I would like to have one!
  22. I still need to do a good tune on her. Probably once I get my dual carbs on. I have messed with the timing a bit, for some reason, this truck has always been a really slow cranker.
  23. Got the dual battery setup all hooked up today. She sure has a lot of cranking power now.
  24. The front clears fine. Oilsoup moved his up a bit and it didn't affect pinion angle. If I still had the bed off, I would probably do that instead of an degree shim.
  25. I looked at my recent order and these were the Rockauto.com part numbers and brand. Please note there is a left and right! OMIX-ADA 1827012 OMIX-ADA 1827013 If there is still trouble, I remember them being 53 Jeep/Willy's IIRC.
