  1. Well, after 3 months or so I finally feel well enough to get the 49er out and dress it up a bit for an X-mas pararde in downtown Wahoo tomorrow night. I found some small battery powered lights that I can string around the rear window and such. Were trying to get a dozen cars or more to show up. Boy am I glad i have that new aftermarket heater I put in last summer as it will be below freezing. Try to have a pic of it after the parade.....Jeez it's good to be back....John Burke
  2. You catch somone takin' yer stuff.....you shoot 'em....then drag them in to the house and shoot 'em again.....then call the police...I think we call it home intrusion....jb

  6. I guess I could answere that one myself....I am about 1/2 way through the radio and chemo and it is not any fun.....radiation in the neck area is very uncomfortable and painful but they give me plenty of meds for that....not to much energy and I sleep about12-14 hrs a day....Halloween is the last day then as I continue to pass all of these toxins out of me I should improve pretty fast.....4 weeks after halloween I go back to see how much good we did....and yeah, it was nice to get the hot rod into the magazine...it's not always about money....john b.
  7. I have had 7 radiation and 2 chemos so far. They installed a power port in my chest for the chemo injections as my viens are hard to find...friday is the worst...chemo in the morning and radiation in the noon...27 more radiations and 5 more chemos and hopefully they will say I am good to go.....jb

  9. thanxz fellas for the support...I will be back...I need to get to my next project....I'm going to design and build a "Tear Drop Trailer" to pull behind my cars...I'll post a ton of pictures....John
  10. Well guy's, this will be it fer a while...next week I start 2 months of massive radiation and chemo and I know I won't feel like getting into it till it's all over. I'll check on you guy's once in a while to see that yer behavin'...I will be back....regards to all of you , John Burke
  11. Nah...I don't think there is anything wrong other than a leaky radiator...part of the problem may be that, in an effort to keep it running cooler, I went to a 16 lb pressure cap...might have been more than the radiator could take...I will go back to a 7 lb'er or so and will remove every other grill insert in an effort to get more air to the radiator...I actually like doing all of this experimenting..it's the breakdowns when I am wrong that suck...john
  12. Don, I think everyone and his Unkle are trying to promote some kind of car show. Around here we 2-3 a weekend sometimes...way to much overkill..One good one a month is OK for me...Heck I'd rather be out driving...jb
  13. It was such a nice day Sat. that we got the Desoto powered hot rod out and headed for a Pontiac/Oakland show about 30 miles away. Things went great for about 20 miles of it when the car started sounding a little strange. A quick glance at the guages showed the car in melt down mode so I pulled it over to check. Coolant fluid was pouring out the bottom of the radiator. I went to call for help...BUT fergot the cell phone..A nice young kid stopped and gave us a ride back to a sevice station a friend runs..Called my BIL and he brought his trailer over and we went and got the car. Since we were close to the show, we drove on over to it. It was held in the parking lot of a large outlet mall near Omaha. They had a large area roped off and check-in stands set up but no cars and this was 11:30 a.m. We took the hot rod back to my house and drove it into the car shop for repairs...sometime...Later about 3:30 we jumped in the "49er" Dodge, that I had just replaced the tranny in, and drove back over...still no cars...So we just finnished the day with a 2 hr. cruize threw the back roads...The 49er ran perfect. Maybe this winter I will think about disc brakes and would really like to do some kind of power steering if that is possible....Oh well...lots to do...John
  14. THE UNDYING UDULATION OF ALL OF OUR UNENLIGHTENED VIEWERS OUT THERE.....
  15. Well...we had some close ones...It's (was) a laSalle hearse set on a bronco or Jeep 4x4 chassis. Powered by a SBC...Interior is mostly Jeep...not asure of the box but here's a shot of the back...John
  16. The lacal car club, The Mead Stardusters, met at my house last nite...It was raining off and on so not many drove their hot rods/ classics since I live on a gravel road...Here is one that did show up...can anyone guess what it is or was?...John Burke
  17. I got a little repect....john
  18. I have three cars, each with a different engine. How come I can only vote once????John
  19. I am running a late 350 sbc with a 700R-4 tranny in my 49 Dodge.. I am using a $130 aluminum radiator from Speedways. I have the trans cooler and the air cond. coils mounted in front of it...14lb. cap ...runs about 180 degrees during the summer drive down the interstate....goes up to about 200+ a little with the air on.. but heck, these engines are made to run at 220 degrees and better with out any problems....according to my mechanic....john
  20. Just when I decided I was'nt going to work on a project this winter....a buddy called up and said he had this for sale....a little rust on the floors and some rocker rust but basically a solid cat with no motor. I really don't know what the going rate on a car like this is...John
  21. that seems to add up....the date 1936 is written on the verso.....1936-22=1914....john
  22. Here is a photo of of an early Dodge. I don't know if the sign means a first year car or the actual #1..Photo was taken at the North Bend Bridge celebration, North Bend OR. 1936...John
  23. and yes I had bad luck.....we took the 49er to go to a cruize....got about 2 miles from home and the tranny started slipping....badly....limped back home and am setting here trying to decide what i want to do next...remember, this has a sbc with 700R-4 trans...while I am setting here I am enjoying a dish of homemade icecream liberally doused with Kaluha...maybe that will help my thinking process:( ....john
  24. I welded mine in because the front crossmember was right where the bolts would have come through. I adjusted the higth so I could use stock shocks. I may add a gusset to the upper part of the mount for extra saftey and strength...john
  25. When I lowered the front end of my 49 Dodge with a kit from Ply-Do, I was'nt to happy with the upper shock mounts they sent. After a couple of road trips I noticed they were bending and the shock was rubbing on the bracket due to close tolerances. I cut them out and bought some forged mounts for an early ford, maybe a truck, from Speedways. I installed one of them tonite. Here is how it looks.....much more room..I really think these will work much better but I'll let you know in a few days when I give it another road test....John
