  1. Sorry It should have said that the crossmember is thick enough to not be reinforced
  2. To me the crossmember that has to be notched is thick enough for it to be reinforced
  3. I emailed Tom @stovebolt and he said the crossmember on the trans wasn't necessary
  4. Ed this is the piece I cut out of the cross member
  5. I'll measure it this morning and let you know. I didn't weld a bottom for it because it still feels solid
  6. Ed, I didn't do a build thread but it was easy to install. I had to notch the crossmember. I used a cutoff wheel and took out about 8 inches. It was necessary to keep the trans level to install it. I used the Langdon kit and I had a three speed in it so the bell housing was the right one. The only other mod was the shifter and I'm looking into a short throw conversion because the throw on the shifter is very long when sitting in the seat.
  7. Finally got the engine back in the truck, worked out the little problems and its on the road again! No smoke, no oil leak, 40lbs oil pressure, and it runs cooler then before. The T5 trans conversion made a big difference from the 3spd that was in it. The carb problem is still there (but driveable) and will look into a rebuilt carb or two barrel conversion. I would have been lost if it wasn't for all the replies and the search engine on this site. Thanks for all the help, Greg
  8. Thanks for the replies. Will try it out and see how it goes. Greg
  9. I'm going to install an electric fuel pump and wanted to leave my old pump which doesn't work , mounted and flowing the fuel through it. I will remove the arm and pin and use it like a second filter and keep it original looking. Is it possible that fuel can leak into the crank case? Thanks Greg
  10. I will take a close look at it and make sure it's the right gasket. Thanks for the info, Greg
  11. Thanks for the replies. When I first overhauled this carb back in august, it was running good and slowly the hesitation appeared. I never soaked the excelerator pump in oil. I think this might be the problem. The carb and the fuel pump was dry without fuel for three months while I overhauled the engine, and after installing it the fuel pump that I bought in August doesn't work, so I poured gas in the vent tube to fill the bowl so I could start the engine and it was leaking. Looks like from the spacer gaskets in between the body and the base plate. Got a new carb kit and fuel pump that's in the mail and will see how it turns out. The info from this site is priceless. Thanks, Greg
  12. I have a Carter 1 barrel carb that was hesitating when I pull out in first, and shift it into second. The quick fix was to close the choke half way and it would run really good. I'm going through the carb now (was sitting for 3 months in a ziploc bag, installed it on my engine and gas was pouring out from the base gasket)I want to know if I should drill one of the jets bigger to richen it up? Thanks, Greg
  13. Tod thats the filter I have. Roberts told me they can't get it thats why I bought it from ebay. On the lower port when I blow air (with my mouth) in it it restricts a little. On the top port it doesn't restrict as much. Might be ok?
  14. Don I thought I read something saying that it only filters 10 percent but I was probably half sleeping when I was reading it. Thanks for the pics of the filter and lines too.
  15. Greg, (nice name) the canister color was blue ac delco. I'll try the mecnhanics wire and I have new lines to install after mounting the canister. I'll do a search for the filters too. Thanks Greg
  16. Is the filter element inside paper or does it have a screen? And I'll try tapping it to see what comes out. I tried to get a new filter but was told that it not available so I got this one. It was in the original box that was in pieces. Thanks Greg
  17. Tod, the hole where the fittings go is small so it's hard to see inside. When I blow through the top hole with my mouth it' feels clear but from the bottom fitting its a lot harder. What are your thoughts of going with no filter? I just overhauled the engine so everthing is clean and this system filters only 10 percent. Thanks Greg
  18. I purchased a new sealed canister oil filter (throw away type) from ebay and its rusty where the fitting screw in. Is it useable or should I Write it off and dump it. Thanks Greg
  19. Right now i'm in the process of overhauling the engine so the interior floor is out. This is what the engine looked like when I got it
  20. looked at my old seal and looks like permatex on it. thanks Hank
  21. Thanks for the reply. What kind of gasket compound do you use, Silicone?
