  1. I saw a picture of my type of rear main seal from felpro bs6300 and it comes with 2 gaskets and 4 of the rubber inserts. The rear main seal I got doen't have the gaskets and only 2 of the rubber inserts. My block is at the machine shop so I can't check it. Do I need the other 2 inserts and gaskets? thanks
  2. Going to start assembling my 218cu engine this weekend. I did some small and big block chevys in the past.I wanted to know what is a good assembly lube to use on this engine.I was using stp oil treatment on my other engines but wanted to know what is recommended. I have the two piece bolt on rear main seal and do you use sealer on the two ends of the rubber seal where it meets each other and where it meets the cap and the block? Any other things I should be aware of. I have a shop manual but everything is not clear. Thanks, Greg
  3. Bought this from the second owners nephew, it was parked for about 12 years because he got cancer and passed away earlier this year. I was told he had the truck from the early 50's and just drove it around his neiborhood. Recently I found out the original owner and it was my dentist's grandfather. He said he was a pig farmer and cooked for the military on the Big island of Hawaii.
  4. I'll look into the gm disc from one of our parts store and see. Don, thats a funny story
  5. Do you think a 9 1/8 disc would be a problem? They have a 10 1/2 too. The pressure plate is a 10 inch. Don, nice pilot bearing set up!
  6. What clutch did you use for the conversion. I looked up the S10 discs and its 9 1/8, compaired to the 10 inch for the dodge. Thanks
  7. Picking up the trans today. I left the bell housing mounted in the truck. Going to mock it up to see how much to modify. Hopefully not to much. Thanks for the info, Greg
  8. Mark, was there any modifications needed to the frame crossmember? They said you might have to trim it,
  9. Gear Rhonda couldn't answer my question. But maybe someone else can. With this T5 S10 trans conversion, do you need to install a trans crossmember?
  10. Don, I spoke to my machinist yesterday an said he can get the engine kit with the bearings. He was going to order it this morning and told me if the .020 bearings was not available he will let me know. I was asking him about the water distribution tube. He said he did one before and it's hard to get out. I didn't have any cooling problems so I told him to leave the old one in. Do you think its going to be a problem? thanks, Greg
  11. I'm looking for .020 under main & conrod bearings for my 218 cu flathead. I was told that .010 and .030 is available for the mains and might be able to get the .020 for the conrods. Looking to save some life on my crank by going just.020 on both.
  12. Yes he did. They recommended 83-87 s10 with v6 engine. The trans that my friend had wasn't a s10 trans, the shifter mount was at the end of the tail shaft so the search goes on. I read an article that you can convert the electronic speedometer drive to the cable drive. Has anyone here did it? thanks
  13. My friend has a S10 trans and was going to drop it off today. Hopefully its an early model one with the speedo cable adapter.
  14. Thanks for the info. I'll try it out, Greg
  15. Ed I'm looking into doing the T5 conversion and was wondering how its coming with yours, thanks, Greg
  16. With shaving the head maybe .070 do yo think I would feel a difference in power? Thanks
  17. I am looking into swapping out my 47 dodge trk 3spd for a 5spd T5 trans with the stovebolt adapter. I wanted to know which trans to use and if there is any modifications needed like redrilling the bell housing. I was looking into an early model S10 5spd with speedo cable. Thanks, Greg
  18. Will look into it. Thanks for the replies. Greg
  19. 47 Dodge Truck 218 cu. Flathead, overhauling engine and wanted to know if I should resurface the cylinder head. Was running perfect before the oiling problem. Thanks, Greg
  20. I removed the front clip instead and it saved me alot of time. On the engine block theres two dowels. It sticks out about 5/16" but it's flat, not tapered. Thanks,
  21. Yesterday I pulled the front end off, which wasn't to bad unbolted the floor and pulled the trans out. Unbolted the clutch and flywheel but left the bell housing mounted in the truck. The engine came out with out a problem. When reinstalling the engine i'm going to install studs to line up the engine to bell housing. Now disassembly time and see whats the verdict. Thanks, Greg
  22. I'll try it out tomorrow and let you know how it goes, Thanks for the help, Greg
