  1. You have all got me thinking about getting a lift. When I had my garage built four years ago I had a cathedral roofline put on it with door tracks that follow up the roof expressly to give enough height for a lift. Somehow one thing led to another and I haven't put in the lift yet. I'm thinking that this may be the year. Thanks for the ideas.
  2. Thanks Don, I'll go crawl under the dash with my 'Zoom' spout oil and put a few drops in it.
  3. I saw the note in the service manual also, but I'm not sure where to oil. It says in the 'cup'. Should I unscrew the cable and put a couple of drops into the speedo head? or into the speedo cable? or both? My speedometer reads about 5 mph low at 40 mph, and does not seem to want to read above 50 mph. It also bounces a little.

  5. After I got my 48 coupe running I thought that it would be a good idea to check all of the fluids in it. When I opened the steering box filler the box was dry as a bone. No problem I thought, I just filled it with 90W. I soon discovered why it was dry! Has anyone had any luck replacing the steering shaft seal without taking the steering box out of the car? The service manual tells how to take the box apart on the bench. Can I disconnect the pitman arm, take the cover off of the box and pull the steering shaft out of the top? If I do, can I then replace the oil seal? This car is one learning experience!
  6. Just thought I'd add my 2 cents worth: Last April I bought my 48 business coupe. It hadn't been run for a few years so of course it needed all of the brakes replaced. I bought a universal puller from ebay. The guys address is http://stores.ebay.com/MPP-TOOLS The puller was only $48. It came in a nice plastic carrying case. It is probably made in China, but it still works fine. My only complaint is that the threads on the post were full of paint, and the thread in the center piece was plated. I didn't have a tap and die to chase the threads, so I spent several hours, first with a wire brush, then cranking the post in and out to clear the threads. Once the threads were clear, it pulled the wheels in minutes.
