  1. I don't have one of the tools shown in my shop manual for adjusting brake shoes to be concentric so I bought some 3/4" x 1/8" bar stock at the hardware store and made this up. It folds like a jack knife for storage. My dimensions are 6" for the uprights and 4.5" for the blade. Simple to make if you have a welder to tack it to the 3/4-16 nut.
  2. Thanks for the reply's. I'm very new to these engines and I'm glad everyone pointed out that it isn't just buy a gasket and bolt it on. I had no idea and don't even know what a water distribution tube is so plenty to learn
  3. My 151 Chrysler had the original flathead 6 swapped at some point to a 251 IND 8 industrial engine. It runs well so no problem but the head on the IND engine lacks the "Spitfire" script which I think is cool. I located a Desoto in a junkyard that has the script on the head. I don't know the displacement but it is a 25" motor. I'm no expert for sure but my understanding is that the script only started in 1951 with the 251 displacement engine. My question is if there could be any compatability issue if I spring for the $75 that the junkyard wants for that head with the idea of replacing the one I have?
  4. I always start as you did and remove the cup that is out. Then I put a small socket against the stem and press it all the way back the other way to get the other cup out
  5. I'm new here and I thought I'd ask before I post...is it ok to post asking other members for a part that I need? I didn't ant to break any rules.
  6. I just took mine apart today. I used one socket larger than the cup and one smaller to press them out in my vise. You should take them apart to evaluate. I found ridges on mine and they will need to be replaced. I wouldn't have seen it if I hadn't pressed them apart.
  7. Your solution seems best. Another option for replacing a 1/2-20 thread is to go up slightly with an M14x1.5 metric thread. The tap drill size is 0.500" so it cleans out the old thread and metric lug nuts are readily available. I measured my original wheels and the lug holes will accommodate the 14mm size. I stumbled on this because I wanted to run chrome lug bolts on my '51 Chrysler and they are not available in 1/2-20 but Audi runs a lug bolt in the metric size.
