Iwas thinking it would almost be easier to remove the pedals. I ended up placing some closed cell packing foam on the floorboard, then and egg crate on top of that. Almost comfortable enough for a nap. Almost. No solutions to my questions to report, though. In the end I wimped out for now. Left it all intact and used some pipe clearners to sort of clean things.

Thank you... well, then: "Holy Marks-A-Lot, Batman!" "No, Boy Wonder," in my best Adam West. "This job calls for a special kind of tool... to the Sharpie store, Robin!"

I pulled the speedo last night (my brake and clutch pedals think we are now romantically involved). I'm not restoring the speedo, but do want to recolor (see other thread) and clean the odometer gears so that I can determine whether I need to later change to a different gear now that I'm running different tires. The back of the speedo housing needs to come off. The little tabs holding the face on seem delicate (one is already broken) and the two arms at the top do not seem to be meant for bending: Any tricks on disassembling the speedo housing/accessing the odometer gears without putting undue stress on those tabs? Is there a better alternative to replace said tabs? Am I asking for too much? Thank you.

I've dug and been able to find anything specific: What is the best way to recolor the acrylic shaft at the base of the speedo needle? Green is there, but yellow and red have gone bye-bye. Is there a specific brand of pen/marker or dye that works the best? Thank you.

When we went out at Texas A&M it was Lone Star ($1.00/bottle) or Pearl ($.85 WITH a pictogram on the cap). Out on our own it was Schaefer (cases of which they'd practically pay you to take). I swore that once I got my first salary I'd be a Shiner Bock man. While I can get it at some stores here in Alabama, waitresses stare blankly at the request and suggest Sam Adams instead. It's just not the same.

Your car is beautiful, Bob, but you probably already know that. Are those twin spots you have? Are they original?

I'm sorry to report that much of that still exists in Alabama. Some of us try to point out the South isn't as stereotypical as the rest of the country thinks, then we do something stereotypical. State run liquor stores: check No lottery: check No gambling: check - unless it's 'charity' bingo, or you are friends with the (insert political office here) No alcohol sales on Sunday: check - unless your county or town is wet and has a private seller Population of NY: 19.5 million Population of AL: 4.7 million # churches in NY: 7800 # churches in AL: 7400 What kind of beer do y'all have?

I couldn't watch this one go by without telling someone who might want it for shows... I love it. Wish I didn't have more critical $80.00 parts-needs. Looks like it would raise the baby just enough to allow old Junior to clear the dash on his way through the windshield. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/vintage-child-car-seat-automobile-old-baby-safety-/280506228859?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item414f79607b

That looks to be one on his hood, maybe? Wow! What a ride.
-
In several of the photos there is something mounted on the hood trim. Is that some kind of traffic light reflector for visors? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Plymouth-60446-mile-unmolested-original-unbelievable-WOW-/220603282453?cmd=ViewItem&pt=US_Cars_Trucks&hash=item335cfaf415 I guess I could just buy the the car to find out - anyone want to buy a couple of kids?

Here in Alabama the limit is now 13.9%, which means I can try the beer my brother just informed me of, Sam Adams Imperial White... if I can find it. Here in the South beer seems to be about just getting a buzz or more. No variety and very little taste. Spent a little time in Wisconsin and was amazed at the huge variety of regional brews. Still have an old 40 oz. Bad Frog bottle and lapel pin. Could be worth dozens of quarters some day. I guess my point is, what is the purpose of 3.2% beer? The fullness of body is what gives beer its character and taste. Without that you might as well just drink water. Of course, 3.2 may be cheaper than Evian.

Frank, with one of those you could make your own Santa... just trap a model from the mall. ...or how about a group of enthusiasts bound by an online forum concerning antique Chrysler products, greg g? If everybody pitches in we can get one for the whole group. I can bring the beer if y'all can raise the cash!

I've been looking at those services and like the concept, if not the price. I kept my old Mustang dash stock and put in a Pioneer with remote in the glove box, creating a "hidden" sound system. My grandfather helped me fabricate a rack for it. Nobody could tell or knew about it except for family and a few close friends... and, unfortunately, the two burner-twins down the street. They had a heckuva party that I'm sure my old Pioneer paid for. -
Lets Have A Bias Versus Radial Tire Debate/Discussion

When I purchased my car she was wearing 6.00 x 16 bias ply. I just put on 205/70R16's and am very happy with the look. I think it's pretty close, but then I drive my car every chance I get, so ride quality was more important than appearance. I'm dropping in a couple of photos, but I think I will get her (my wife) to ape the first photo's angle and take out the backgrounds. The radials do look like they fill the wheel wells a little more, but I'm not so sure my eyes are seeing that rather than my brain. Now I have to convince myself a new radio looks as good as the 6volt that no longer works -

Maurice, I am running the same Eagle LS-2's (205/70r16) based upon your previous post and am very pleased with them. Thank you for posting that info. -
Lets Have A Bias Versus Radial Tire Debate/Discussion
Edward Roberts replied to 55 Fargo's topic in P15-D24 Forum
My first car - 1966 Mustang - had bias ply that I later changed to radials. Night and day: went from handling like a freight train to handling like a logging truck. While the tires can make a huge difference, the rest of the suspension really needed to be upgraded to make a truly reliable driving experience. Reliable? I mean safe. Looking back, I can't believe my parents allowed me to drive that car on the highway. My '46 Plymouth had bias ply but they were in such poor shape I never turned them under power. Love my new radials, though. It does seem to me that those with the later 15" wheels have a slightly greater number of options (thus more affordable) when it comes to buying rubber than those of us with 16" or larger. $650 later (not including spare) I might've gone with the smaller wheel if I was smarter. -
HA! Good show. My face is as red as my ears are wet. Love the color of your Dodge.

I'm with Young Ed... old underwear, dish towels, old gym shorts (which are likely terry cloth-ish). It ain't easy being cheap... but it sure is cheap.

Thanks for the input everyone. Since no one has come forward suggesting this thing is especially rare, I think I will follow Niel's advice and modify this air breather with a lug on the side. Thanks again!

The ignition system on my '91 Ranger decided to die between lunch and the end of the work day. Another coil-on-plug has gone out on my '00 F150. The hood hinge on my '76 Fleetwood Brougham has given up the ghost, so I haven't been able to get to the engine to get it running properly. All of this to say: The most reliable vehicle in my stable right now is a 1946 Plymouth Special DeLuxe.

Holy Smokes!!! And I've never even owned a Pontiac. This is what happens when you write emails late at night. The family never caught it, either. Hmm... everyone please forgive me... I guess my Freud was showing.

Kind of said hello after you answered my other question, Greg, but hello. Still playing with the member Control Panel and will check things out. Thinking of the stand-up intro, here is a copy of an email I sent out when we got our 1946 P15. For entertainment purposes only: Dear Mom & Dad, I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. We have some big news. Are you ready? Sitting down? There’s a new little addition to the family and we know you will be as excited as we are! Now, I know what you are going to say. Yes, we may be a little younger than most, but we’re both ready for it. We’re mature, and together we can make it. I know she’s going to be a lot of trouble and it will take a lot of time and effort, but we’re ready for it! I’m excited about the extra responsibility. I really am! Mom, dad – you just have to trust me on this. I know you are worried now and you probably think this is more than we can handle, but in time you’ll realize we can make it, and you’ll come to love her just as much as we do. And let’s face it: your little boy is a Pontiac man, now! Love, Edward

Thanks, Greg. The coolant is at the proper level now and a subsequent short drive produced no leakage. The overflow tube appears to have a small slice in it which may have been the source, but left no evidence. (This tube is so old and painted-over that I can't tell if it's hardened rubber or metal. Will scrape and replace accordingly.) It appears that the radiator is filled with 100% coolant rather than a mix. The previous owner commented that I might need to rod the radiator if it "runs hot" and couldn't remember if there was a thermostat in the car (which seems counter intuitive to me). I've read here on the Tech Archives about the need for heat with negative crankcase ventilation. The temp gauge currently does not work, so I'm nervous about going too far. When I park the car and raise the hood I see light smoke/steam coming out of the oil refill tube filter. Is this normal? Is that an indication that I haven't run the engine long enough? Are these cars especially prone to overheating? Should I run a mixture or 100% water in the cooling system during the summer? Thanks for any advice.
