  1. Car? Niel, I was talking about my wife. Argh! Why do I do things like that? Now I can't let her see this forum. Seriously, though, I agree. Can't stand someone telling another guy what to do with his wheels. But the Boy Scout in me insists I check and make sure I'm not modifying a few-of-a-kind.
  2. Cool, I may want to trade. So the 40's and 50's models have permanently attached filters? I think I like the option of easily removing the filter for cleaning, but this one would obviously have to be altered to work with my brace. I have a personal rule: If it's decent and desirable, don't go messin' with it - someone may be looking for it. If it's crap anyway, change it any way you wish. Is this air breather a hard-to-find item, or would there be no harm to the balance of the universe in welding a bolt onto the side? I'd like the car to be originalish, but it's already been converted to 12v and it's not like I'm prepping it for Pebble Beach.
  3. I grew up with miniature Schnauzers - wonderful dogs! One got stolen, one tried to convince my dad that he was in fact the alpha dog, one gave us a puppy and lived for 15 years, and her puppy just passed away last summer at 15 years, too. I doubt my mother will cry as much at my funeral should it come prematurely. I can still picture Bingen (mamma dog) sitting in the passenger seat of my old Mustang. Squatting on her hind legs, leaning against the seat back, right front paw on the window sill, watching the world pass by calm as can be - just a little human riding in a car.
  4. Does anyone know what vehicle this oil bath air cleaner belongs to? (I suppose I should have placed a ruler in the photo, but I'm at the office now.) The previous owner included it in the trunk - said "it looked like it might fit." I'm going with a small paper filter unit for now but would like an original. Does anyone have a '46 air cleaner and a whatever-model-vehicle-this-goes-to out there who'd like to trade?
  5. Thanks, Tom. I look forward to picking everyone's brain.
  6. Thanks, Rob. I'll put up a couple more photos. How did you get your steering wheels on that side of the car? HA! My uncle spent ten years in Australia and said I'd love it having grown up in Texas. Love the color of Dorothy. Our car was actually green (a darker shade) at one time, possibly originally. Greenbomb, took the car out for the first time today. New tires worked great, as did everything else aside form the headlights. Oh, and there is a coolant leak from a pystery location. Had to explain the smile on my face to my wife. Women think cars are supposed to work perfectly... with nothing to work on! I just don't understand it. Tim, I haven't wanted to call this color Grabber Blue because of the Ford people. I have found, though, that it's a pretty close match to Moroso Blue, as evidenced by my new plug wires. (Please excuse the Lucky Charms effect of the wiring used in the 12volt conversion.)
  7. Thanks, Tim. I used to change tires and have watched in horror as coworkers performed some bizarrely cruel rituals on rotors, things involving breaker bars and air hammers. Never mouth off to the guy who prepares your food or works on your brakes! I did notice the color match. I'd say it was coincidence, but perhaps the previous owner of mine was preparing me to be Mr. Coatney's doppelganger.
  8. Howdy, all. I'm new to the group and to Plymouths. I recently purchased a '46 Special DeLuxe 4-door. This is my first "old, fun" car. I say fun because I don't have to have it running to get to work in the morning! Having said that, I'm looking forward to getting it on the road for the first time tomorrow morning. New tires are coming in today. I went with Goodyear Eagle LS-2 in 205/70R16 per Maurice Wade's post. (Cooper wide white$$ will have to wait.) Had to leave the wheels with the tire shop, so it is a sweat-filled day at the office worrying about how much damage a reformed meth-addict can do to four steel donuts given enough time and access to pneumatic machinery. I plan to purchase service manuals and the like soon (money goes to moving parts first), but in the meantime can anyone tell me the torque specs on the lug bolt? I can't seem to find that tidbit anywhere. I'm guessing 80-90 lb-ft., but then I guessed a lot in school and look where that got me. Thanks in advance for the help and for participating in such an info/experience filled forum. This is truly a great source of help.
  9. Wow. Interesting cars. I'd say, though, that what was old is new again. The first car looks like it has all the handling advantages of a Honda ATC and the impact integrity of a Smart Car; the second looks like the love child of Robocop and the Oscar Meyer Wienermobile; I like the looks of the third but what were they thinking with all those levers and knobs on the dash to distract you - might as well put in a cell phone and texting device. Over all, I'd say depressingly little has changed in the last 60 or so years.
  10. I would guess 'no way.' As Michael Bay is the only director in Hollywood (since James Cameron is busy photocopying Avatar for Avatar 2), any movie has to be an advertisement for a product. No Plymouth - No Movie. Just as well... 'Christine' as played by a Neon just wouldn't work for me.
