1953 Dodge 'coupe' truck project
IanT_Qld replied to Desotodav's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
I read a previous post of tony-westoz which showed a coupe with the crome stainless centre bar (windscreen) on a deluxe so likely did get sliders as well. Was down at tbe ski fields these school holidays -> only man made snow, it came to late for me, bugger. Ive seen some impressive snow photos of mums place. And my niece's playing in snow at 1 am. It doesn't snow in QLD that often. -

What seat slides? What luxury. My 52 doesn't get that. Oh hang on - you've got the "delux" coupe. so makes sense its got more luxury features. -

After a successful break like yours, work is gonna drag. -
Delivery vehicles were often sold empty so the owner could fit out as appropriate to his needs. Classic example is the chassis on cowl option. On the Petrol topic, petrol is a liquid not a gas or solid. Rather that a shorten Gasoline.

Beleive it or not. I had to use them last year in Australia. (I was in the Snowy Mountains) Similar experience to Don, once out of the icy car park the road was fine.

mixed emotions...I trust its for the better.

interesting, mine on the right has those buttons drilled so the hub is only held on by the wheel bolts. Presumably a mechanic or Grandad in the past couldnt get it off either. I removed my rear wheel the ofther day and the drum just fell off.

I'm running no seat belts, (in australia if the veichle was originally not fitted with seat belts then there is no requirement to install them), however my truck is still only registered to carry 3. -

Toowoomba swap meet was big, not much dodge, there were two rims there from an earlier dodge, with the smaller slots. Not the same as mine. I still regret not buying them. Oh well live and learn. -

Awsome build, I haven't been on for a while, good read. So my two cents worth on a couple of items, keep the visor, way more comfortable than having 30+ degree sun comming in the windscreen. Original brakes are OK, the old addage drive to conditions is just more true, consider the old 6.5" rag tyres and slippery gravel. Over the Australia day weekend I took the old girl out camping, near Boonoo Boonoo NP, traveling 45 to 50 miles per hour on gravel roads, all good while it was straight, noisy, tyring and exciting -> but add corrogations and cornering + braking. Keep up the good work. -
Regarding sludge build up - there is a little stop-cock/tap on the left side of the block, i regularly open this and let out about 1/2 litre of brown coolant before the clean green coolant comes through. Just remember to top the radiator back up. yes to thermostat, and a non-spring cap.

I remember that truck for sale in Ipswich, nice ute you have, and it is one of the coupe cabs. rare a specific to australia. If it is 53-55 then that front end is from an earlier one? the angle of the steering wheel is one indicator of age.

Just for fun... my (G'dads) original service policy and current rego. Original engine, and key number. On this deviation of topic, is the door key and ignition key originally different?

Test drive - Convinced Wife there was Coffee Involved
IanT_Qld replied to IanT_Qld's topic in Mopar Flathead Truck Forum
Unfortunately i don't a throttle cable, got the nob but no cable. Dan, my suspension is nice and "subtle", well its all greased. I have over-riders on the rear, after new tyres and an alignment i will trial a few different settings, no overriders, remove a leave that sort of thing. -
BTW - What is normal oil pressure? I noticed mine tended to sit around the 40 mark on the dial.

The indicators work, just the parkers don't. Given its day time should be right. As for tyre options, I'll be checking out what others have at the Chrysler Expo Sunday. The tracking issue may also be that I haven't had a wheel alignment done, ever. -
Went for that Test drive today, 66km. (the longest run so far) Took wife and got Coffee and galati, nice day all up. Truck went well. no leaky fuel. Crused comfortably at 50mph (I thought). Didn't push it tyres are old. Is it normal to use the choke to control idle when cold? (I havent had a carbie car since 1991). I rebuilt my carbie and adjusted idle for a warm motor. Is it normal for cross ply tyres to "skirm?" about when driving? It was less noticable on good roads, but crap roads the truck sort of jumped around abit. Wife kept telling me to slow down. Anyway it was a good day I wanted to share.

Test drive went well, didnt have to walk home. fiddled with fuel and idle speeds. think i have it right. I assume you have tried rare spares? AutoOne in Stanthorpe is also a rare spares agent, I just assumed he got it from there. BBQ sound Great. I will have to save up for tyres before I tackle a 250km trip down to Brisbane. (lately its been too many work trips to WA, this week I am chewing up my days in Leiu, and its been great just to have several days to do stuff on the truck. TomorrowI will revisit the indicators and parkers. At present i only have indicators.

No worries Hank, I am considering getting a second kit for my spare carbie and rebuilding that. Had dificulty measuing 5/64" even converted it to mm (2), in the end just bent it, seems to have worked, Idiling nicely and ran well, so now for a longer test drive (couple of Ks). What happens if the float is set too low? I guess it can't pick up fuel and starves. and i will have to walk home.
-
Currently rebuilding my carburettor and found this post useful. The other side has a usefull link to which was most confidence inspiring.in short i have fuel leaking out my accelorator pump. Hopefully a fix of the float level and a slight lowering to compensate for the higher expansion rate of modern fuel and all will be good.

I rebuilt my carb yesterday, and did not fix my problem of leaking fuel out the accelerator pump. Thanks also to mikecarberetors for positing the rebuild video. My sons have been telling me forever you can find how to do anything on Youtube. Put in new gaskets and needle and seat (the old one only had a fine ware mark, but since i had a new on in it went. I didnt change any of the check balls or jet, perhaps i will do that today and hopfullly get it right. Cheers
