I think the rubber can be used if it is not torn... just lube it up with brake fluid... I also think the smaller bore would give a greater leverage... more pressure to the brakes with the same pedal pressure... but there might be longer travel of the pedal... I think... (of course I could be all wrong... I'm just a truck driver.)
good thing you and your source of nice 16" rims are on the east coast 'cause if they were over in my neighborhood i'd be trying to acquire them if the price was reasonable.
I too really like the 3rd's grill...the 3rd one was a repaint of the 4th... these plymouths were our family cars back in the late 40's and early 50's. wonder if either car survived...
wasn't the national speed limit lowered to 35 during ww2... (perhaps after the end of 1942).... man... that's slow.... or is it sssslllllloooooooooowwwwwwwwwwww....
if you want a bad scare... a slap of reality in case of a crash... you need to check youtube '2009 chevy malibu vs 1959 chevy bel air crash test'... our old cars don't hold up too good in a bad crash. seat belts wouldn't help the driver of the '59. just another reason to drive carefully!!!
a couple af things... some think you got to completly rewire to convert to 12v. not so... in fact, because of the heavier 6v gauge wire, it is a bigger 'pipe' for the current to flow thru. another thing... if appearance is not important you can repair the insulation that's missing or cracked by using 'liquid tape'... it's available in different colors sometimes. home depot and lowes and walmart sell it. haven't found brown however.
found 'accel' sae 10w-40 'SF' for 1988 and earlier at walmart... think it was about $2.40 . wonder if it's any good?? note: the brand 'accel' doesn't look anything like the hi-po ignition brand.
i've noticed oil seems to be around $3.00 a quart now. however, i bought a box of three gallon jugs delo 15-40 at sams club for about $31.00. the days of 50 cent a quart oil is gone.
the grey '41 desoto is at about 92000 and the blue one shows about 07000... (add a one in front of 07000) both don't show any signs of major work or replacement. my '99 toyota has 221000 miles and now has its first problem...a burnt valve.
