  1. Love the updates, Chet...keep 'em coming. Looks like you are getting real close to the home stretch. Looking real good as well. Pat
  2. But if the voltage regulator isn't charging the battery fully, you are running on the battery while driving. Next time you go to start it, there will be nothing. The car will still start with a boost. Check the "water" level in the battery. If it's low, then there is no place for the "charge" to be stored. If low, top up with distilled water.
  3. With all due respect, the wheels are not properly centered in the wheelwells. To me, if the wheels can't be centered, it doesn't fit.
  4. A friend of my dads hacksawed the roof off of his old English Envoy one night. There was alcohol involved
  5. Some scanned old Carter carb spec sheets from the 1946 Carter Carburetor Specification Manual that may come in handy for those having carb problems. 1927 Dykes Carburetor Manual also available for older Mopars and others. http://www.old-carburetors.com/index.htm
  6. If he is planning to put a 440 in it, he will have to remove the front clip/doghouse eventually. If it's done before you remove the original, possibly with his help, the engine trans removal is pretty easy. Front clip/doghouse comes off via about 16 bolts.
  7. I wonder how much money I have turned down on these deals? The last one was new...work from home on the computer and collect and cash money orders, take my pay out and send in the balance. How I was able to resist is a tribute to my strength as a human being.
  8. I've found that once you start using that kind of stuff, you have to keep on using it. I wouldn't ever use it again.
  9. Fred, the only reason I wanted the fluid drive was nostalgia, my first '49 had the M6/FD. If you are happy with the regular flywheel and standard, you should leave it. You'll get better performance from it I think. As for the M5/FD, not much can go wrong. Replace the wiring and electrics and it's probably fine. (replace the fluids too)
  10. This might be useful in helping to prevent a dead battery in a vehicle not used regularly. It also has a remote control disconnect for anti-theft. Comes in a 6 volt version not mentioned on the website "Battery Brain Gold Prevent a Dead Battery with added security Monitors the battery and disconnects the electrical system if insufficient battery power is detected to start the engine. Offers remote control reconnection. The remote can also be used to disconnect when leaving the vehicle as an Anti-Theft feature.Save Yourself from Being Stranded Don’t let extreme weather make you worry about whether or not your car will start. Let Battery Brain be your failsafe against whatever is thrown your way! Never be stranded again!Vehicles using Battery Brain are Ensured to Start No matter the circumstances, vehicles using Battery Brain are guaranteed to start under any conditions. Battery Brain works on any vehicle, old or new, that uses a conventional lead acid battery
  11. Fred, just use a lawn chair instead, it has a back and arms. Duct tape it to the floor for safety so it won't fall over and you're good to go. Don't worry about the border guards, they're looking for nail clippers!
  12. I'm on dial-up and I don't have any problems with pages loading or pics loading at all. If I am logged in, I can see "new posts" and not have to wade through stuff I've already read or miss stuff I was watching. Being on dial up really doesn't diminish the enjoyment of the forum at all so far...I like it.
  13. We got about 3 inches from late last night till now, more coming tonight. Forecast for -15 tonight and a "high" of +1 tomorrow. Likely we'll lose it all and have more shirtsleeve weather before winter REALLY gets here...this is just a teaser. You'd think people would remember how to drive in the snow, but NO. Lots of parts trading today.
  14. So much for offshore sourcing keeping the prices down.
  15. Charlie, My industrial engine has no stamped number...just a blank pad. Doesn't look like it was ground off, just never had one. I'm thinking of stamping my original engine's number on the pad. at
  16. So, the business closed, the owners walked away leaving stock and supplies behind and it just sits that way for how long? Around here it would be $500,000 designer lofts within 2 weeks! Amazing to me that a place can sit virtually untouched for so long.
  17. Any pics of the dealership while it was in business?
  18. Is there a "Greybeard" member designation?
  19. The industrial engine I bought had a front sump(now for sale), a downdraft manifold, a six blade fan and the motor mount has to be changed. It was in a large snowblower.
  20. SEMA also has the SEMA Action Group for keeping track of clunker laws nationwide. http://www.enjoythedrive.com/content/?id=7254 I'm not aware of any similar groups in Canada or elsewhere
  21. Not sure about the alternator, but restorides had a nice bracket to mount it to our flatheads
  22. Around here, if it aint freezing and 10 feet of snow, the garage is for toys. However, you have to keep the Mrs. happy or you may end up SLEEPING in the garage...alone. Good luck
  23. Some great advice, thanks guys. Don, I have most of Jon's posts re: fluid drive. The guy really knows his stuff. I've never heard of soaking the gasket. I wonder what it does? Pat
  24. I'll be going that route when I get to that stage on the Chrysler, but I think I will buy right from Tom. If I have some issues, I'd like to be able to get some help. $150 isn't much of a saving over buying new and getting some customer service if needed.
  25. This is kinda like buying a brand new loaded luxoBarge. Bells and whistles everywhere. I haven't found the bar in the back like a Rolls Canhardly would have
