  1. My truck didn't feel right coming back from a parade yesterday morning. I could hear a rhythmic sound coming from the front end or tires but couldn't decide what it was. My brother had redone the front brakes before I bought it back from him a couple of years ago so I thought I would check if the wheel bearings needed repacked. When I took off the dust cap on the right front I saw that there wasn't a cotter key and the nut had backed off half way down the threads!!! I repacked the bearings on both sides and should be ready to go again. This is an example of why I only stick to county roads when I go somewhere.
  2. Is there supposed to be a gasket or o-ring on the fill cap for the master cylinder? I found what appears to be an old paper gasket that has pretty much disintegrated when I took the cap off. There is a rounded groove between the threads and the top of the cap that looks like would accept an o-ring. I looked in the parts book and it doesn't show anything needed. Just checking.
  3. Very cool. That looks like it was a blast!!
  4. Okay. Thanks Reg.
  5. That's what I'll do to give it some extra wear surface when I replace the whole wire because that is definitely the trouble spot. Unfortunately the wire broke in the process. I have the instructions and pictures of the puller that was made out of horseshoes for when the time came. Well, it's here. I'll go back out and look for the fill plug again. Thanks to both of you.
  6. I had the feeling that I shouldn't but I did anyway to see what would happen. My horn wire was just about completely broken where it comes out of the steering tube, so I was looking for a way to find a couple of inches to splice into. I removed a small plate at the bottom hoping it would be dry (ha, ha, ha!!!) but no such luck. I lost about a tablespoon, or so, of gear lube when I pulled this stunt so where and how can a guy replace the gear lube that was lost? Also, is there a source that says how much the steering sector holds and how you check it? Thanks.
  7. Thanks Dennis. I forwarded them on.
  8. I just found one picture to go with the description although it isn't a very close shot. It looks like the front glass is good on it.
  9. This is probably impossible to do but I'm trying it anyway. My dad has to get rid of some of his toys because age is starting to catch up with him. He wants to try to find out what his '41 1 1/2 T dump truck would be worth and, of course, I can't find the pictures to post. The closest visual for condition I can give is to compare it to the yellow construction truck that Tony posted pictures of a while back. The color is almost identical and was probably a county/state truck. Basically it sat out in California (Chino?) until 2 or 3 years when he brought it to Iowa. It has sat inside here and doesn't have more that surface rust if any. The interior has been eaten up by mice and I don't recall what the glass is like. It probably has a few dents because of the nature of the work it did. There probably isn't a truck that old without a few dents. He has had the engine running but I don't know more than that. With what I've listed does anyone dare to guess what this would be worth? It kills me because I don't have the means right now to buy it from him or the storage either. Thanks.
  10. Lee, is that truck in the US or in Australia? It would be more novel over here to show up at a meet with something like this.
  11. Nice looking truck. I really like the shade of blue.
  12. My oldest son is left handed and my dad used to get so mad because we wouldn't "fix him" so that he'd use his right hand. Actually he was able to use both quite easily. He batted and shot a shotgun right handed for a long time before switching.
  13. I really like my subscription also. The biggest problem is that it's not monthly.
  14. That is very cool!! Trucks like ours do bring a lot of attention.
  15. My radiator started leaking progressively more and more last summer. The water temperature always stays a little above 160, with the exception of one parade last summer. I took it 1 1/2 hours away to a guy my Dad has used to repair old tractor radiators. We decided not to do the acid bath, which could potentially create more problems, and just backflush and pressure test the radiator. Upon first inspection he saw a crack where the top tank is welded (or soldered) to the core. He gave me a call a few days later and said he had welded the tank, pressured tested the radiator and added an overflow tube that I can hook a hose to for $56.00 and some change. What a relief!! I was sure there was going to be situation where I would have to spend several hundreds of dollars to fix it. And I'm the one always telling my wife not to worry!! LOL
  16. My condolences also. Does anyone know the make and year of the truck?
  17. What does "hamb" refer to? I've been reading the posts to see if a definition would show up but not so far. To me "hamb" is what's on my grocery list. LOL
  18. Very, very nice car. You'll be able to keep it in the family for a long time now that it's fixed up. It makes them harder to part with then.
  19. Watch this Chrysler training film on transmission updates. I'll tell you up front that this is a fake training film. You have to listen to the subtle things they slip in to the text (i.e. referring to the manual and songbook). It took a lot of imagination to come up with the terms that they use. I hope this isn't something that's been around for a while. Enjoy.
  20. Wow, someone means business with that front bumper!!! They must need to coax buffalo out of the way.
  21. That is just too cool!!! I have always loved the looks of the Metropolitan.
  22. That's one of the ugliest cars I've seen in a while!!!
  23. Man, oh man, oh man!!! I would really love to have something like that!!!!
  24. The 218 in my '52 pickup is listed as 97 hp.
  25. Is your system negative ground? If not, how would you hook it up for a negative ground system?
