  1. I am ready to re-install the speedometer in the dash. What is the path for the cable. Does it go through the firewall and then down under the floor to the trnasmission? What route. Do I cross over the engine along the firewall to get to the passendger side and then drop down or do I drop down the firewall on the driver side and cross over to the pseenger side to connect the cable? Is this the speedometer cable and the correct spot to pass through the firwall?
  2. Thanks. I will have to take care of that before I hook things up.
  3. Thanks JB. I have a brand new speedometer cable so hopefully the seal is good.
  4. Thanks Ed. Boody, thanks for the pic. I probably would of looked at that thing a dozen times before figuring out that was the connection.
  5. What would it be for and do you know if they are available aftermarket or do I need to track down an original replacement? Draining coolant?
  6. I have what appears to be some sort of fitting sticking out from the drive side of my 47 218 engine. Any ideas what it is?
  7. Does anyone know where I am suppose to connect the speedometer cable on my 47 WC 3 speed transmission? I don't see a fitting on either side or the top.
  8. I have given up finding the correct fitting. I ordered the McMaster ferrule and will also try David A.'s approach. The McMaster ferrule screwed in about 3/4 of the way before it started to bind because of the difference in thread count. The die I ordered is due to be delivered today. I will know more after it arrives. UPDATE: I just received the 27 thread die and cut the threads on the McMaster fitting. Easy to do and the fitting now threads into the oil gauge with ease. This is a simple fix.
  9. I tried an oil pressure line kit from AutoZone. The compression adapter had the same diameter but had the wrong thread. They looked the same but it would not thread into the gauge. I have a flare fitting that is the correct size and thread. I am taking it to a plumbing supply supplier Monday to see if they have something that matches it. If I find a solution I will post for the group.
  10. I think the original oil pressure gauge for my 1947 WC is okay but the line from the gauge to the engine is missing. At first I thought it was a flare fitting at the back of the oil guage but when I tried t install a new line I realized the threads only went about half way and it actuall was not a flare connection. Does anyone know what type of connection is at the back of the oil gauge? I was able to adapt a new tempurature gauge from a 47 Chevy truck into the dodge instrument cluster. I was hoping to salvage the oil gauge but now I don't know. No one has an after market replacement and rebuilt ones are hundreds of dollars.
  11. Yes, my lens has the numbers and it is in good shape. The background has the tick marks that display between the numbers. That is what I am hoping to find a decal for. I guess I could try scanning the dial and photo shopping the background to darken the color. It is not in horrible shape if I can find something.
  12. I ordered the replacement disc from DCM. Here is my problem. How do I get the little center hub loose so I can place it on the new clear disc? It appears to be pressed on.
  13. I need to freshen up my speedometer face on my 1947 WC 1/2 ton. DCM sells decals for 48 and later but not for a 47. Options 1) Speedometer face decal 2) Complete decal set for all gauges 3) Pattern for the Speedometer. I can print the decal myself if I had the pattern 4) Suggestions for another solution?
  14. Just out of curiosity. I notice the sort of aqua blue paint on the interior of the housing. Both mine and the pictures of ones I have seen for sale. I wonder if that aqua blue has some phosphorescence properties to reflect the back light when the lights are on. Sort of like the old watch dials.
  15. That worked. Old disc popped off. I have a replacement along with some other parts in my DCM shopping cart. I just hope it goes back together just as easy.
  16. You just pull the disc off the shaft with gentle pressure? I was afraid to try. I am afraid of damaging the delicate mechanism pulling on the shaft.
  17. Has anyone restored a speedometer. More specific replaced the clear disc and ring pointer. My speedometer is functional but the pointer that attaches to the (what I imagine was clear when new) plastic disc has fallen over. The plastic disc has shrunk significantly over the years and warped. I was hoping to find a replacement disc but looking at the current one there appears to be no way without damaging the speedometer to remove the old one so a new one can be attached. I pulled this picture from one for sale on eBay. Mine has shrunk even more and the metal ring has fallen off.
  18. Has anyone seen or do you have a picture of the dash for a 1947 1/2 ton truck. I am looking for something similar to what you see in a modern vehicles owner manual. An image of the dash with everything labeled. I am re-wiring my truck and some of the switches, dash lights, etc... are obvious. Others are not. I have a repair manual but could not find anything in it. Something like this that labels everything an their location.
  19. Thanks. This confirmed what I suspected.
  20. I have a new gas tank and just order a new gas tank seal for where the filler tube comes through the floor into the cab. It is an inch or more think piece of foam. My question is where does it go. Is it supposed to fit between the top of the gas tank and the bottom of the cab floor? That appears to be the most logical location. I do see what appears to be screw holes around the perimeter of the opening that may me think there is suppose to be a metal flange also on the inside of the cab.
  21. PT81, that picture is exactly what I needed. Worth a thousand words.
  22. Thanks. Based on the description the 1/2 - 3/4 inch gap is normal. Here is the part description from DCM. This is the front fender fillers used to fill the gap between the cowl and fender area. This gap maybe from 1/2'' to 3/4'' of an inch. This is a formed rubber filler that is shaped to seal and close the gap. This part was mounted to the fender. Used on all trucks 1/2 ton through 2 ton . Also Flat fender Power wagons . The fillers are sold as pairs and are 30'' each in length.
  23. The welting is not thick. Here is a picture from DCM of the welting. The piece between the fender and cab is very thin. It does have a bead at the top but the it the exposed piece. I need to find a picture of a completed install.
  24. That is what I thought, also, it fits close at the bottom next to the running board and the gap widens at the top.
  25. My project did not have a voltage regulator when I purchase it. I ordered a new one from DCM and they sent me an actual NOS regulator. It says it is a 3 in 1? The box was falling apart from age but the regulator is new. I was reading the literature/instructions that came with the regulator and it list it as being for a 1931-1940 Dodge truck (along with a large list of other vehicles of all makes and models) The latest model vehicle on the list is a 1940. Should it be okay for my 1947?
