I"ve been beating my brains out trying to get my 50 Dodge to run decent. Monday I put in a new set of plug wires. It has not run this good in all the time I've had it.Touch the starter and it' running without any hint of a miss. About time!!
I have beat my brains out trying to get my 50 Dodge with gyromatic to run decent. Monday I put a news set of plug wires on it. It has not started and ran this good in all the time I"ve had it. Touch the starter and it is running not a miss to be heard.
Your car looks good. Only bad thing is gyromatic trans. I have one and all those wires to the trans can give you all kinds of fits. Thats the only thing I dont like about my dodge. Wouldn't mind the fluid drive if it had the 3 speed trans.
Unhooking wires to trans made no difference. I've checked everything I can think of all my friends around here say put a chevy in it. Not gonna happen! maybe dynamite or junk yard.
There is no noise from throwout bearing. But I do have gyromatic trans my next thought was to check that by unhooking the wires on the carb I'll try that tomorrow. If I let it kill the engine when it does this it is hard to get started. Yesterday while cranking on it the starter bendix broke. Luckily I had a spare starter. Not been a good week with this thing!
Blocked clutch down and got under for a look. No wires any where near it. Had this car for around 4 yrs and not this much trouble. Driving me crazy and its a short trip!
Finally got my dodge running again. Have a problem now I've never seen or heard of. runs good but have to keep the idle up if I push in the clutch the engine slows way down and starts cutting out real bad. If I step on gas still does it but faster. Ley off clutch and it smooths right out. Has anybody ever seen anything like this?
OK I put the old needle valve and seat in. Not dumping gas in now. Haven't got it to start but it was flooded pretty badhave timing light hooked up and it flashes so I have fire. Can't get back to it until Sunday see what happens the. Thank you all for your help. This is the worse old car I've had to keep running.
Checked pressure with a gauge, changed both needle valve and seat, clip for float locks in casting,, float floats and doesn't leak. I'll change needle and seat back to old one today.
I was having a hesitation problem so I rebuilt my carb on my dodge. I have rebuilt a few carbs with no problem. After rebuild it started right up and ran good for a ride around town. Now it won't run and floods out real bad. When I hold it on floor to clear it out gas pours in carb and gets deep in intake manifold. Took carb apart again and checked float setting was in spec could not find anything wrong. Running electric pump with 4 lbs pressure. Does any one have any ideas why it would flood like this? Has new needle valve , accelerator pump cleaned it good. I'm stumped.
My fluid drive gyromatic shifts up and down like is should. But when it is ready to shift from third to fourth it seems to be a slow shift. If I push in the clutch it shifts immediately but if I let up pn gas to let it shift it seems like it should shift a little faster. Is there an adjustment for this?
mine makes the 3 to 4 shift at about 18 mph. If the idle is too fast it wont shift. I hear an audible click when it shifts. If you dont hear it your not shifting. Should run well over 45mph. Mine is 50 dodge with gyromatic I've seen 85 in it and could have done more.
Be careful.I put a plug that was too long in a 53 plymouth flathead years ago. first crank over a valce hit the plug. Closed the gap but also bent the valve
Take carb off and look in manifold to see if gas is standing in it. Mine flooded like that and had about a half inch of gas in manifold. My dodge floods very easy I have to be real careful starting it.i Have electric fuel pump and have to keeo the pressure turned down low or it will over flow the carb.
