Just saw that Langdon's Stovebolt now has cast dual exhaust headers for 25" blocks

Just saw that Langdon's Stovebolt now sells cast dual exhaust manifolds for Desoto and Chrysler 25" blocks.

Langdon has had them for the Dodge and Plymouth blocks but now we can put them on our 25" blocks too.

Yes and unfortunately, just as he did with his earlier steel headers, he has used the "chevy" style instead of the Mopar

style. Up on the forum photo section was this original Dodge truck intake. The dual exhaust  Fenton,  the ones George Asche makes from

Stock intakes or several others that make steel headers for the 25" Desoto, Chrysler and Dodge truck engines at least mirror where the one original exhaust exited.   Sadly Langdon's which I really looked forward to getting is a complete bust for my truck.

 

He sells the small block ones already so why he would fall back to the chevy center dumps confuses me. Its not because he is

trying to make equal length runners as they are not that either. The price is certainly attractive however the design has me shaking my head.

So the big question is????

With the cost of the new intake plus two identical carbs that needs to be completely rebuilt and be in equal condition almost back to NOS or as close as can be, A new collector pipe or possible two because of the exhaust manifold. possible two mufflers and two tail pipes clamps and what ever other items are needed what is the payoff result for making this change.  You still have a car with an engine that has a rated 92-100 HP based on you  head being either the original or an aluminum head.

 

If then you want a better speed then possibly a rear end change.  So add up the entire cost to get what result?  A cool looking car or a somewhat hotrod. And then if you have all this speed then also change to Front and rear disk brakes.  And all the aggravation of making the changes

 

I do not get all the hoopla. Just my opinion.

Generally accepted knowledge on making more power from a flathead is opening up the exhaust.  Without dyno work it is guess as to how long the exhaust header pipes need to be coming off the block and in what exact configuration to maximize the HP.  The original cast headers on the Dodge Trucks where probably a compromise for things like heating the bottom of the intake in the winter good vs. maximum HP.  

 

Of course the new cast headers may or may not have been done by mocking them up on an engine on a dyno and testing both the direction of the branching and the length to find the best possible power.  If they did, I would have like to seen it posted with them in the add.

 

The other issue as to having to go duel all the way back is another topic.  I suspect that one could run a duel header pipe back 2 to 4 feet then "Y" it into a single modern high flow muffler and tail pipe and it would give you the same increase as going duel all the way back.

Where can you find this type of dual exhaust pictured in your post? I've never seen one like that where the outlets angle back

You are looking at a Chrysler factory built dual exhaust and intake for the long block 265 engines on the big trucks.

You can get a very similar set for your short 218/230 engine from George Asche Aok racing \, contact timkingsbury on this forum for prices and details.

They can do, tru split halves or 2 exhaust outlets on your stock set, with it being blocked in the middle.

They do very nice work...

Okay thanks Fargos-Go-Far. ONe last question; where can I find the small air cleaners like the ones in the picture on 1937 Dodges picture above?
