Desperately need distributor for Dodge 230 6cyl.. Mine is toast. The one I have now is Autolite 1AT4011 and I have a seized 1AT 4140 that came with the truck . I am sure that there are others that will fit it. It is a 56 dodge Truck C3 and I have installed a 53 Dodge Coronet 230 6 in that I have converted over to 12V, negative ground. The truck was alread 12V, as all of the gauges are 12 V. This distributor is holding me up and none of the resto sites have one. Thanks for your help.

Out of curiosity, what makes you think it's toast? If you're going to toss them, send them my way and I'll have a go at them. If I can get either one to work, I'll send them/it back.

I agree Dave these should be rebuildable. Loosen up the weights and the shaft and put points etc in them. I've never seen one with a worn out shaft/bushing.

Dave,

Here is what my rebuilt distributors look like:

and here are the parts you'll need (mine came from Kragen-O'Rielly Auto Parts as they were most reasonable)

I have two Distributors:

This first one is a 1AT-4102. The shaft is 5-1/2" long.

The second one is a 1AT-4003A. The shaft is 5-1/4" long.

I'm not sure which one (the 5-1/4" shaft or the 5-1/2" shaft) for the 218's and 230's, but I may be willing to do an exchange + cash for the one that is my spare if yours are rebuildable. I'd have to see some good photos.

If it's the other one (not sure but I think it's the 5-1/2") I would be willing to sell that outright.

And now for the Locker Room question you really never want to ask :

How long is your shaft? :D

Think I'm going to be able to salvage my original distributor. Waiting on a new cap I've ordered, which I think is the problem. I now have a strong spark at the points, but nothing to the plugs. I found a messed up spring and contact in the inside tower of my distributor cap keeping it from making contact with my rotor. Going to have to replace the whole cap.

chargerdave,

Cool, there is really no much to them and they are fairly easy to rebuild, but everything has to be attached correctly. Where are you getting parts from?

Good luck,

Hank :)
