p10plymouth Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 I have a chance to get a NOS Allstate spotlight 40's looks like a Appelton spotlight (long tear drop look).... Before I get it . I noticed my redball 40's antenna ... might be in the way ... Has any one ever installed spotlight with this type of antenna ...Thanks for the infor... Quote
Ed Griffin Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 I dont have this type antenna nor is my car a Plymouth so I cant say for sure either way if it will work. I did go out and look at my 48 and looked at where the hood and cowl line is. Your antenna looks to be close to it where it is mounted. Where the body comes up above the trim moulding is basically the same. My spotlight extends up if not just past that hood to cowl area. Your antenna looks like it would hit the spotlight if left where it is. I would still buy the spolight regardless and figure out which I wanted more if no modification could be done. Hopefully someone who has had to deal with this will chime in. Good luck, Ed Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 Look for pictures of your model car in various places, including ebay. maybe the carnut.com site.....many on their are resto rods, some more original. Surely someone has both the spot and antenna. Quote
bob_amos Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 I'm not sure about the clearances but is that a passing eye mirror I see? I love all those add on items from way back when.... People would buy almost anything and everything. The inventors sure had more imagination than we do these days. What other items are on this car? Quote

BobT-47P15 Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 Darn......I think this fellow has more "stuff" than I do. Looks good to me!! I got mudflaps with fancy reflectors, but no curb feelers or markers. Amuses me......I have more related stuff sitting around that only gets used occasionally. I can't go to enough car shows to use all of it. Quote
Captain Neon Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 I have a similar antenna installed on my own P15, and also have a set of spotlights I want to install some day. Mine have mirrors on the back so I would have inside adjustable side mirrors were they installed. I haven't done much research, but have considered mounting them through the doors rather than through the windshield frame. I am looking at a poster that I have on my wall that includes two P15 convertibles. Both have spotlights installed w/ radio antennae mounted through the top of the cowl. Both cars look like the antennae would cause more problems than our side mount antennae. Please let me know how it all works out for you. I plan to install them when I replace my worn-out interior; possibly spring 2009. Quote
martybose Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 My P15 came with a set of spotlights installed and the same antenna, although it was on the right side. The antenna interfered with the spotlight a LOT; I wound up taking the antenna off and putting a modern antenna on the driver's side on the deck between the rear window and the top of the trunk lid. eric wissing Posted July 8, 2008 Report Posted July 8, 2008 That is a sharp P10. I like the P15 because it is so close to the pre war cars. Nice car and great accessories! Eric Quote
bob_amos Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 Wow!!! You guys got some great stuff.... I just love all those period add ons. Fortunately, there are so many different periods that all have their own stuff.... I'm no smoker but when the Golden State Region visited Jay Leno's Big Dog Garage we saw this box that hangs on the steering column and holds cigarettes. You push the lower door open and out pops a lit cigarette. I now have a brand new on on my column. I've collected a number of other items but nothing close to you guys... Thanks for the photos. Never heard of those garage feelers. Really cool!!! Quote
kevinanderson Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 Great "40. Love that stuff too. How 'bout a snap of that map on a roller. Pretty interesting. Quote
kevinanderson Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 Heck. How about some pics of all these things. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 #1 I bought this old 6 volt siren at a swap meet and have it mounted behind the grille. People get a kick out of hearing it. #2 Got the old 45 rpm record player at a yard sale for a buck. The windshield scraper and the card will figure gas mileage for you. Flea market or garage sale items. #4....put it under your wiper to try and avoid a parking ticket. #5 WWII gas ration books for Dad's '36 Plymouth. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 You can invent your own Plymouth related items to display, if you are so inclined. The thermos jug was two tone brown and bought for a couple bucks at a flea market. The ice chest was white and purchased for $15 at a yard sale, as was the thermos bottle. You get the idea. The gas cans were originally red and yellow.....bought at rummage sales....painted maroon to match my dash and window frames. The flags were printed from the computer and glued on. The "Old Plymouth Gas" and "Old Plymouth Oil" signs were made for me by another member of this forum a couple years ago....just glued on. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted July 9, 2008 Report Posted July 9, 2008 #1 & 2 You can find all sorts of old automotive products at flea markets and yard sales or from friends......if you just look. #3 At least a couple of those boxes up on the file cabinet contain more smaller old car related stuff and some Coca Cola stuff. #4 An early version of cup holder. (w/aluminum tumbler) You can take a small bulletin board and an easel, to make literature display for car shows. Quote
p10plymouth Posted July 16, 2008 Author Report Posted July 16, 2008 Hi just thought I would give you a update I did not want to drill a hole in my dash either.. nor remove the Red Ball Antenna .. But I did find a clip on spotlight with a mirror.. it is 6 volt and uses the 1503 bulb.. I am looking for the " bulb-shield " if you know of any . thanks Quote
Normspeed Posted July 16, 2008 Report Posted July 16, 2008 Also, motorcycle aftermarket places sell different sizes of the light visors. That is a neat looking mirror/spot. Quote
