1949P17BC Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 I just picked up a Chrysler 250 in talking to George Asche its a 1940ish vintage. My question is after a thorough cleaning I discovered it is painted Green. I was under the impression all of these types of motors were silver. The paint job is to complete to be the work of a shade tree artist? Could this be a reconditioned motor from a rebuilder such as a Jasper etc. Quote
Ed Griffin Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 Yes, it's very possible. The engine in my 48 Dodge is the green or bluegreen color as well and it has an old Jasper rebuild sticker on it. Thats the only reason I knew it had been rebuilt by them way back when. I knew of Jasper engines but didnt know how long they had been rebuilding engines. Looked it up on the web but dont remember whole story. Do know they've been rebuiding them during the 40's. Did your engine number have the correct C... on it or had it been changed since it had been rebuilt? Quote
1949P17BC Posted December 16, 2006 Author Report Posted December 16, 2006 yes is it was stamped c38 Quote
Ed Griffin Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 You lucked out then. At least you'll know which engine it is. Still hadnt figured out mine since letters and numbers dont match for a Dodge unless it's a truck motor with the T. Forgot to ask, did it have any stars stamped along with the numbers? Lookng for a trait that Jasper may have used on all engines other than the green paint and sticker that will usually be a goner after awhile. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 17, 2006 Report Posted December 17, 2006 I am thinking the Jasper decal was center of the block just abouve the oil pan and block gap...forget what side though... Quote
