buds truck Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 Just Bought This 53 Dodge B4b Truck For $800.00 And It Runs Like A Top. Drove Right On The Trailer. It Will Get Torn All The Way Down And An Updated Frame And Drivetrain Will Go Under Her. I Tried To Upload A Pic Of My Just Finished 49 Plymouth, But The Size Is Too Big. Bud Quote

John Mulders Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 So how did you find it? Looks real good and for 800$ a real deal ! John Quote
buds truck Posted July 2, 2008 Author Report Posted July 2, 2008 John, I Actually Found It On Craigslist. It Was In Better Shape Than I Had Hoped For. Hopefully In A Year Or So It Will Be Back On The Road. I Will Start Dissassembly Probably This Weekend. The Flathead, 3 Speed Trans, The Extra 4 Speed Trans And The Rear End Will All Be Available If Anyone Needs Them. Bud Quote
John Mulders Posted July 2, 2008 Report Posted July 2, 2008 Definitelty a great find! Sure looks in good condition. Maybe I should look at Craigslist aswell. Somewhere down the line I would like to get something like that and get it in current roadworthy condition (same as you are planning I guess). I have an ok from the boss but first must finish the Wabi (P15) John Quote
bob_amos Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 Bud, I love trucks. This one sure looks like a future beauty. At $800 I might have jumped on it too. Keep us posted on the progress. Quote
buds truck Posted July 3, 2008 Author Report Posted July 3, 2008 just found a 94 chev s10 frame for it, a rolling chassis for $150.00. they even delivered it. so far the dice is rolling my way. Bud Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 Congrats for a great find, Bud. Just a question: Why do you want to plant her on a '94 chevy frame? Please excuse me poking me nose in your business, but what I mean is: If you want to have a cool '94 chevy, you do it as a chevy. If you want A COOL RIDE, which puts smile on your face every time you drive it, you need to have a flathead on original bomb proof frame & transmission. Well, at least it works that way for me... Kind regards, Pekka Quote
buds truck Posted July 3, 2008 Author Report Posted July 3, 2008 Pekka, I understand your concern, but everyone has their different ways of doing things. I wanted a more modern suspension and a chev v8 for reliability and ease of accessible parts should it fail on the road. I also have a 49 Plymouth that has a Nova front end and a 350 powereplant in her also (not to mention... gasp... it is also chopped... as the truck will be). Each person has their ways of making a vehicle their own. I truly believe I will have a COOL RIDE after I fininsh this project. I know I have a smile on my face every time I drive the Plymouth and would expect that same smile when I drive the truck. Have an awesome 4th, Bud Quote
Uncle-Pekka Posted July 3, 2008 Report Posted July 3, 2008 Bud, I agree - Everyone does the car for himself as per own preferences, that's what the hobby is all about. Further, I belive the truck will be a COOL RIDE when you will complete it. Actually, I am not the purist I used to be once. I do not mind chopped cars, as long as the job is well done and with style. Somehow still, I prefer (for my rides) to keep the original engine, because I feel that it is an essential part of the car. The spirit. The feel. It may be more a philosophical issue. What I mean is if you take Beyonce's body and plant Margaret Thatcher's brain to it, what do you got? (Even if the both parts are sound in their own league...) Sorry - I am doing it again. 1st time I think I was testing if you are sure of the idea of modernization. Now it seems I try to turn your head - No, I appreciate what you prefer, I just tried to explain my own preferrences. Well, some times "I am too sexy for my body..." /P Quote

God help us. Bud Quote
Normspeed Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 I'll bet the original frame, suspension, motor will all find good homes in other old truck projects. Looks like you got a good deal on that one. Quote
old woolie Posted July 4, 2008 Report Posted July 4, 2008 I can't put in words how it makes me feel to hear how a good looking, good running truck like this will be whored out to the GM freaks. Are there no chevy or gmc trucks left? I don't care who this piss's off. Kick me out of here if you want. Quote
Niel Hoback Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 Old Woolie, somebody had to say it, a lot of us were thinking it. Quote
Normspeed Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 Well, the thing is, Bud found the truck and bought it, and that makes it his. Up in the NW where he lives, we're talking long distances and rugged terrain between towns. Also some pretty extreme climates. Reliability is a factor. Myself, I'd try for a hemi in there. Quote
buds truck Posted July 5, 2008 Author Report Posted July 5, 2008 the best part is I also "whored out" my 49 Plymouth before I got this one. your ignorance is showing "old woolie". My suggestion is to get a life. Not everyone is into restorations and I would suggest an attitude change. Are you this narrow minded about everything? I have no problem with what you want to do with your vehicles, why should you have a problem with what I do with mine? Quote
old woolie Posted July 5, 2008 Report Posted July 5, 2008 Old Woolie, somebody had to say it, a lot of us were thinking it. Thanks for the backup. I have no problem with modern upgrades, I'm not a restoration only guy,but I strongly think it should be all mopar. Quote
buds truck Posted July 5, 2008 Author Report Posted July 5, 2008 I just consider it another part of my "blended" family. Quote
jimwheeldon Posted July 7, 2008 Report Posted July 7, 2008 I work with a guy that put a 51 Chevy truck on a dakota chassis- it sports the 3.9 v6. I've been thinking about putting a really sweet running 59 corvette on a 72 Dodge truck frame with a 6'' lift and super swampers -it has the 225 slant six and modern brakes...should be very reliable.
