Norm's Coupe Posted May 15, 2008 Report Posted May 15, 2008 Sorry guys, guess I should read the rules first. ha. Thanks for editing that. As mentioned I don't mind that if I'm talking to someone in private, just not when it's to the world. I've picked up a couple of hot rod and custom magazines that has that type of language printed in it. However, when I see that before buying it, I just put the magazine back on the shelf and never look at them anymore. Quote
Powerhouse Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 I just took the ill fitted muffler of my p7...the pipes so badly clamped together they leeked like crazy and the muffler could be moved freely within the pipes. I decided to see what it would sound like without the muffler...WOW...it sounded kinda cool...but toooo loud for my neighborhood. Could anyone suggest a good muffler that's not too constricting but not too loud? Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 Jim's on the right track, its really hard to hear each other at the moment. Since I had to put a big hole in the floor to put the diff trans in.But I'm one of the few lucky ones that found a gal that loves noisey old cars. She gets as much of a kick out of it as I do! Gotta love her. Are you now running a T-5? Quote
Kustom52Mopar Posted August 28, 2008 Author Report Posted August 28, 2008 Are you now running a T-5? Yes sir I am now. Had to replace the countershaft and front bearing but all is well with it now. Could anyone suggest a good muffler that's not too constricting but not too loud? I'm on the hunt with that one myself, found cherry bomb makes a muffler that is 12" over all and 8" for the body. But I'm going the "hack it yourself" route by taking a used glasspack and pretty much taking the fibreglass (while wearing gloves and a mask) and tube out the center to make 2 small mufflers. Have no idea if it'll work but with $10 invested woopty doo if it doesn't. Quote

Bodacious Posted August 28, 2008 Report Posted August 28, 2008 Dude, your car is really loud. But,as long as your ok with it that's the only thing that matters. Oh really? So the rights of everyone else to be able to hear themselves think don't matter then, huh? That's the problem with the world these days, no gives a flip about anyone but themselves and what they want. Grow up, be responsible and for God's sake have some consideration for others. Quote

Jesus, I think this is a bit too harsh. It's not like people are stuck hearing it for anything but a few moments (except when you are in the car but that's a bit different). I would have to think that we are all guilty of thinking about ourselves over others at some point, it's human nature. This is one of the few times I feel as if I should defend someones actions. The last time I checked we are all living in a free country, free to make our own decisions. This I feel is a harmless choice that will not hurt anybody so I would think we could lighten up a bit. No with that being said...I have cutouts and lakepipes on my '51 and they are way too loud in the car. I plan on eliminating the lakepipes and rerouting the open exhaust through the same tailpipes as my Smithy's. BloodyKnuckles Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 for God's sake have some consideration for others. I am offended that you make a loud car a matter of religion. Tune it out and get over it. This is one of the few times I feel as if I should defend someones actions. The last time I checked we are all living in a free country, free to make our own decisions. BloodyKnuckles Ron; Having driven your car I elected to tune out the loud noise and simply enjoy sliding around corners and smashing the undersides of your lakes pipes:D Quote

I guess you'll never be driving my car again. Jeez, the nerve of some people! BloodyKnuckles Quote
Bodacious Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 I am offended that you make a loud car a matter of religion. Tune it out and get over it. Fine then. I'll just uncork my 450 HP street driven Chevy and start driving it that way. And if anyone doesn't like it, they've got the problem, not me. Is this what you and a couple of others are saying? Screw everyone else, right? It's all about what I want that matters. Quote

RobertKB Posted August 29, 2008 Report Posted August 29, 2008 No, I think he gets it. He just feels others should not have to listen to an unmuffled car that is obviously too loud, even according to the owner. I have a Harley owner near me and I really resent it when he comes by every day with the throttle open and I can't even carry on a conversation or my one year old grandson starts crying. Why should I have to put up with that? There are noise laws and I for one would appreciate them being obeyed. Thanks Bodacious for saying what a lot of us are thinking. Quote
Kustom52Mopar Posted August 30, 2008 Author Report Posted August 30, 2008 I have to agree with Robert on the point that when something really loud like that is driven daily, it is excessive. I hear the same Harley everyday fly by my apartment, he isn't gentle with the throttle either, and it is quite annoying. Also Bodacious does have his point of being curtious. Which is fine and dandy but I'm definately not gonna build my car just so everyone is happy, then what would be the point? But I'm sure like most people, I don't drive my car but maybe once a month or so now-a-days. So if it is a little too loud then so be it, with 5 forward gears I do a pretty good job keeping it calm in neighborhoods. But I have taken action on calming the roar of my furocious flathead. So I suppose summing up is there is a time and place for ruthlessly loud and muffled cruising and can't we all just get along with what we are all brought together here for....Mopars. Quote
