Sorry to be a whiner...but I need to vent and suggestions. I bought my car March 2nd and have been trying to get on the road. It needed a few things:

Front and rear glass installed (I Have it, just needed the rubber and someone to do it)

Exhaust-nothing from manifold back

Fuel Pump

Taillights, bare wire in back thats all

I had a ton of trouble trying to get anyone to do the glass work, and get the correct rubber. I got the rubber, and finally last week it went to a glass shop who is doing good job. They had to order a channel for the drivers window, which should be in anyday then it will be done.

As soon as they call it is off to the exhaust shop which is a quick fix.

Then I should be able to drive it, as soon as I fix the horribly leaky fuel pump.

My goal is to get this car mechanically in top shape. I want to be able to drive it anywhere. I ordered an HEI Igntion from Langdons, and if I am doing that I have to do a 12v conversion which I wanted anyways. This is where it gets overwhelming. I am acumulating theparts for the 12 v conversion, (bulbs, voltage reducers, etc), I also figured if I am doing all of that, I might as well re-wire with a new harness. So I ordered one from Rebel Wire. I really want to get on the road in the next few weeks, nd not sure if I am going to make it. I have never re-wired anything, and still not sure what to do about the taillights yet. I have the housings, but cant get the sockets so I have to modify the housings so new ones from Napa will fit....the list seems to be growing instead of getting shorter. I just want to get out and drive! Sorry for being so long winded, just not sure how to get it all done!

If you want to drive it I'd say leave it 6v until you are ready for some down time. Then start upgrading

You sound like me...if I am going to go through the trouble to do ______ then I might as well do_______ at the same time. Fill in the project on the lines as they all seem the same. 12V leads to wire which leads to gauges which leads to....you get the picture. It always takes twice as long as you think it will. I am putting major projects on hold for awhile and plan on driving it while the weather is nice. Best wishes and keep us updated- Nate

I am kinda in the same boat. I am just about done repainting my extra dash so then I am thinking when the dash is out I should rewire. Also will be putting my freshly refurbished radio with mp3/cd input wired in.

Leave the electrical as is for this year and tackle the conversion over the winter.

If you start that now, you won't make it and you'll be pissed.

Enjoy it...the six volt isn't near that bad if you go through it cleaning grounds and installing the correct battery cable.

I am there now but I have drawn a line as to where to stop. This means that I will only tackle jobs on my car that will put it closer to on the road for this summer the 12 volt conversion will have to wait till next winter of coarse this is going to set back next winters plans of going over my drive train and I will be in the same boat next spring.

You also get to check the work you have done already and debug if neccessary.

It is very hard to decide where to draw the line, it means you will have to go back through some of the stuff you have already done. but if you are like me a summer of driving is enough payback that you will tear into your project next winter with a whole new outlook.

Good luck

Jim
