Lou Earle Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 How do you test dwell on 6 v pos grand? I was thinking of hooking the tester to a 12 v battery and then test - Will that work? Or what about installing a 12 v battery just to test dwell - not turning anything on? Lou Quote
bob westphal Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 Most dwell meters work off of the cars power that is in the ignition system and connect to ground and the negative side of the coil. It works on 6 or 12v. Quote

Normspeed Posted December 8, 2006 Report Posted December 8, 2006 My tune up tach/dwell meter works fine on 6 or 12 volts. It's analog, not digital. Quote
grey beard Posted December 9, 2006 Report Posted December 9, 2006 My digital meter works only on 12 volts, and I'm afraid I've already ditched the old analog unit. Well SSSShuckss! Here in Pennsylvania Dutchland, the saying goes, "We get too soon old nd tll late smart." How true . . . Quote
TodFitch Posted December 9, 2006 Report Posted December 9, 2006 When my old analog tach/dwell meter died a couple of years ago it took me a while to find a new analog tach/dwell. And it cost more than I would have liked. But it does work on the 6v positive ground system. Which is the only thing I wanted it for as the new cars are all computer controlled electronic ignition.
