BobT-47P15 Posted April 10, 2008 Report Posted April 10, 2008 In looking for information about replacement speakers, I ran onto a web site about the new Hartke bass amp system they call HyDrive. Made me think of a 54 Plymouth. Hartke Unveils HyDrive: A Revolution in Bass Amplification "Hartke has introduced a new, revolutionary line of bass gear called HyDrive. The new groundbreaking speaker design fuses paper and aluminum cones, offering the warmth of traditional paper while incorporating the punch and attack of aluminum. With three cabinet configurations, three combos and three new amplifiers, the HyDrive line merges innovation and lightweight power in a combination"...... A link to that page for any of our bass players who might be interested. http://www.samsontech.com/products/productpage.cfm?prodID=1939&brandID=3 I actually use a Hartke "Kick Back" bass amp on my regular weekly gigs. Works pretty good. (Should have gotten more of the Plym in the pic.) I'll toss this one in for any guitar players......a music store about 20 miles from here, called Fly By Nite Music. They have a ton of guitars, both old and new, plus a lot of amps. I go there from time to time. Kind of like a salvage yard with lotsa old Mopars. Quote

greg g Posted April 11, 2008 Report Posted April 11, 2008 So does the amp share lubricant with the instrument or with the musician? Today on NPR the did a segment with Markus Miller, jazz bassist. He has played with Miles Davis, in the Saturday NIght Live Band and collaborated with Luther Vandross on many of his albums. Did a nice demo on the difference in sounds between a fretted and fretless bass. He took a question from a listener who wanted to be able to speed up his finder work. Marcus advised him to get an old stand up bass and practice on it for a good long while. He said when he then picks up his electric bass it will be like the difference in swinging a weighted fungo bat and stepping up to the plate with a single LV slugger. http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=89526139 Quote
