Niel Hoback Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 I have been passing this for a couple of years now and finally decided to share it with you all. It's in front of a mineral mine near Berkely Springs, West Virginia on US 522. It appears to have a diesel engine in it. Overall height is about 6'6". Quote
greg g Posted March 19, 2008 Report Posted March 19, 2008 Plymouth Locomotive works of Plymouth Ohio, built these small Industrial switchers from the 20's through the early 90's. diesel power was introduced in the late 20. Ususally less that 20 tons. Built about 7500, 1700 are still working. (which is amazing considering most of the companies that had them have gone out of business) Not Diesel electric, used a torque converter type trasnmission. Used mostley for shuttling rolling stock around mines, lumber cutting operations, forges, and other factory complexes, and for breaking up trains to put them on car ferries. Quote
