I think the corner has turned on the collector car hobby. I saw alot of cars that were very ordinary today at the auction. There were cars that have been turning up over and over at these events and now are not being resold. The reserves are not being met. I think we are in a slump and the dollar is taking a hit. There were some guy's at the auction that were really upset because they could not play that flip game and are now stuck with a car they truly need the money for, playing that game of flip it has now backfired. This was car there. To me:) IMG_1264.jpg

I can't say that I feel too sorry for the guys that attempt to make a quick buck off of serious hobbyists. Speaking solely as a hobbyist who loves cars, I am glad that the speculators are getting out and cars are being enjoyed by car enthusiasts. As a pragmatist, I am concerned that many restorable cars are being left to rot because the speculators aren't investing the money to restore them. I guess what I am saying is that it is good for us hobbyists when the guys who just buy a car, maybe clean it up a little, and then sell it are out, but it is bad that the guys restoring cars to make a profit aren't able to make a go of it.

I can't say that I am sad to see the bubble burst in the old car hobby. I hope we have seen the last of Barrett-Jackson on TV as well.

It means my car isn't worth as much, but it ain't for sale anyway.

The unfortunate part is that the reason for the bubble bursting is a general slump in the economy and that is gonna hurt alot of people.

Harold, There were so many people there that I got sore arms hitting folks as you make your way though the crowds. That is the one thing I dislike about a good event. It is so hard to make your way though the crowd to see everything there. The cars were so nice and like captain neon said the hobbyist were in full swing.The venders mostly tool vendors and auto lift companies were giving all kinds of demo's. The one thing that caught my eye was a guy with this wax/polish he did a demo and took a guy's ring put some chemical on it and made it look brand new, I felt it it was so smoothe. You know this guy did not even buy the product:mad: The one thing he did was he sprayed some paint on a red hood put some of the polish in four dots had folks dip there finger on it, then had them just put their finger down on the sprayed surface. When they removed the finger the paint was gone. I have had such troble with overspray and this chemical will help. It was like a carnivale, I love it and I can reconize a good product:D sometimes!

Rodney,

I wasn't there either but I have to agree with you. That Mercury had to be the best car there.:) That is one of my favorites.

As for the bubble bursting, that's happening in not just cars but in a lot of other parts of the economy today. I hate to say it, but I don't think it's finished busting either.:( Too may people have been living beyond their means in the past 15 years or so, and now it's all catching up with them and the banks.

I use Meguiar's almost exclusively. The cleaner wax is a good intermediate product. I used it to get my convertible ready the morning of my wedding almost 6 years ago after driving it 27 hours from AR to Albany NY. It looked great.

I prefer Gold Class for when I want to do a really good job and take my time. I used the Next Generation Tech Wax and while it wasn't as good as the Gold Class. It is a good "idiot-proof" product. Good results with minimal effort and quite forgiving for rookies. I tried the Tech Wax on my wife's car while she was visiting family.

Now wait just a minute. Are you guys suggesting that people actually sell their cars and make money? Boy have I got this concept all wrong. I just keep throwing money at the car and it just sits there smiling at me.

I just plunked down $1600 to have the bumpers re chromed and the stainless polished. And I'm sure it's not going to make the car go any faster, get better mileage. Even if I was going to sell it who's going to pay for such sentimentality?

I just put $12,000 in a 69 Triumph - I'll be lucky if I get $10,000 and I'm selling it to put the money into the Plymouth. (getting too old to ride)

Of course my buggy whip stock has also dipped a bit so you can tell I'm not so good with money.

You may put alot of money into your car however before you sell it you must enjoy for a while. I noticed some guy's drive their car for a year before they sell it. I think that makes up for the loss some think they suffer when looking at the bottom line.

when it comes to the polishes and wax that I buy at these events, you would have to see the results for yourself, I think aside from buffing these polishes leave such a smoothe surface. I have tried to get the same results from store bought products and can not.

The Mercury was the best car there however some might argue that the 1958 chevy Impala was, both stood out.

What is wax?

Nice thing about the color of my car is it does not show dirt. I last washed it before leaving for Charlotte last summer.

I will wash it one evening this week as I am going to a show on Saturday and it is dusty from sitting in the garage.

I think I have waxed my car twice sence I have owned it. I did get rid of the red hubs last night and went with

gold as I like the way the gold looks.

Don, rub your hand across the finish of your car, does it feel smooth? No Don the paint finish:cool: Don, when the paint finish is smooth the car goes faster:p

Rodney;

Both my hand and the paint feels smooth. Why do you think I won the BIG RACE:D

Maybe if you drove it more it wouldn't collect dust in the garage.:D :D :D:p

Norm;

I went on a nice 20 mile drive last Sunday. It did not blow much of the dust off. When was the last time you drove your car on a 20 mile drive?

Last time I drove my coupe was in November before the snow started flying around here. It's still too sloppy to drive it now even on nice warm sunny days. When it gets warm the roads are full of water full of salt from the snow piles melting and water rolling into the streets. But..........my coupe does not collect dust in the garage.:D There's too much dampness and snow for dust to fly.:P

You should open the wallet a little and let the cobwebs out and pick up a California Duster to clean the dust off the car. I can't remember the last time I had to wash mine. Just pull out the duster in the summer and wipe the dust off with the duster.:D Also have the small one for the interior.
