norrism1 Posted March 1, 2008 Report Posted March 1, 2008 Thought it was time to show the 51 B3B. It's not mine any more but that's her after new owner painted. Yes, I do still miss driver her around Endicott. http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h32/norrism/28_1_b1.jpg Quote
Reg Evans Posted March 2, 2008 Report Posted March 2, 2008 Nice engine compartment. I like that John Deere green color scheme. Got any more photos? Quote
norrism1 Posted March 3, 2008 Author Report Posted March 3, 2008 Reg, This is all I have on her. I did not do the paint or the mods to front periscope on top or the 4 speed. The guy who bought it from me frenched the lights door handles, ext. I had it original exept for the 12 volt conversion. But it does show what can be done if you have the inclination. Quote
msjenkins Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 Like the pictures and it brings up a question. I notice there is not a vent window, was this a modification or a standard feature on the '53? I am looking at removing the vent windows on my '50. BTW, here is the link to my website. I just updated it. https://home.swbell.net/mdjenk Quote
Merle Coggins Posted March 3, 2008 Report Posted March 3, 2008 You'll notice that this truck also doesn't have the corner windows. This is the Standard Cab, without corner windows and without vent window. The Deluxe and Custom cabs had the corner glass and vent windows. To convert to a non-vent side window you would would need the glass assemblies and front track from that type of door. Then you would need to remove a couple of tabs in the door where the front track and vent window mounts. The window regulators are the same, so you should be able to reuse yours. Also, all necessary holes should already be there to mount the other track. I found all of this out when I got a replacement door last year. The door was a single window setup. I made the tabs for the door to mount my vent wondow setup. So, it wouldn't be difficult to do what you want to do, but you would need some different pieces. I have a glass assembly and front track for a driver's door that I could send your way if you ask nice. Here are some pics for your reference. The tabs in the door. You'll find them when you remove the vent window assembly. I would recommend bending them down out of the way instead of cutting them off. This would make it easier to convert back in the future if so desired. I fabricated tabs and welded them into my replacement door. It was a bit of a P.I.T.A. Single window with front track. Roll up window and front track for vent window door. Quote
wallytoo Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 merle, my dad's 52 b-3-c has no cab corner windows, but it does have the vent windows. i always assumed it came that way, rather than someone adding the vents. i figured the "deluxe" cabs had both, but wasn't sure about the "custom" cabs. perhaps not all the custom's had corner windows? wally Quote
norrism1 Posted March 4, 2008 Author Report Posted March 4, 2008 As a matter of fact, it originally had the vent windows since he dropped the top 2 inches (+/-). The new owner didn't like them as he wanted a full glass window. He originally was going to install a 350 but found out it had a cracked block. Since the original started in January with no problem he decided to keep the 218. I had all the papers for the machine shop and parts for the engine rebuild. Quote

(possibly a custom cab?) Kinda wish it did have the corner windows, but I'm going with what I have as it's in fairly good condition for being 56 years old. Dave Quote
Merle Coggins Posted March 4, 2008 Report Posted March 4, 2008 Apparently these trucks could be ordered in many configurations. I stand corrected. I was only repeating what I had read in Don Bunn's book. Merle Quote
