grey beard Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 Byron, Wow! Those are some pretty nice low ratios. Do you know where I can find anything like that here in the East? To answer your question, these low ratios surely must have originated with a car chassis. The only stumbling block you might encounter is the axle splines. Wouldn't be difficult to pull one of yours and stick it in the lower ratio lumps to see if they are compatible. Yours both need to come out anyhow if you are swapping lumps. JMHO Quote
Merle Coggins Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 Byron, I got a 3.73 diff from Normspeed. As I recall, it came out of a 1950 Plymouth. It was a direct swap with the complete diff assembly. Even my splines matched. If those that you have are the same size diff, I don't see why it wouldn't be an easy swap. If they were mine, I'd probably go with the 3.54. I would think it would give you a good hyway cruise. The 3.36 may be a little too low. Merle Quote
Byronb3b Posted February 24, 2008 Author Report Posted February 24, 2008 Both of my spares came out of '48 Chryslers with fluid drive, the 3.54 was the standard for the sixes while the 3.36 was standard for the eights, the housing is the same as our 1/2 ton trucks. I'll use one and should sell off the other as my pile of extra car parts is becoming greater than my ability to climb over it. Thanks for help. Byron Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted February 24, 2008 Report Posted February 24, 2008 The 3.36 Chrysler 8 cyl. pumpkin mounting gasket is a different size (bigger) than the smaller 6 cyl. cars and pickups. I don`t think it will bolt into the housing. The car to truck axle housings also have the spring perches swapped top to bottom. Bob Quote
