Don Jordan Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Last year I bought a car in Arizona and trailered it home to California. It didn't run, no brakes - the usual. I never really took it to the DMV because it didn't run so I never registered it. Last week end I finally got it running - cool. I got today off so I was going to go to DMV and register it. I can't find the paper work. Calif DMV won't do anything without the pink slip. AZ won't issue a pink slip without the guy's signature. I got it on the bay - so asking some guy to venture into DMV to get a replacement pink slip for some crazy old man is a stretch. I can't (I sure hope I can't) be the only guy who has tried to register an out of state car with no pink slip. There must be a way to do it. When I bought my 4 door it was out in the desert - no pink. I guess what made that easy is it is a California car. I've torn the garage apart. I found an extra radio, the ash tray for the back of the seat - but no paper work. any ideas? Quote
builtfercomfort Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 http://www.its-titles.com/index.htm Look around the HAMB for their luck with these guys - pretty good - and what to say to the DMV Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 You sure this one didn't also come from out in the desert??? Quote
randroid Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Don, Seems to me there are a few members here from AZ who might want to take an adventure like that in your name and get a signature from the seller. I did what you're facing a few years ago. It took way too much time, was a pain in my ass, but didn't cost much and was possible. I realize the laws in CO are different than CA but what I did was to go to the DMV and explain what I was up against, and they gave me a list of criteria I needed to satisfy. From what I remember from my youth in CA the only way of transferring a title is with the Pink (which is what makes mechanic's liens in CA such a joke), but there are ways around it. This being an election year, I bet your local State Congressman might be put to good use. Worth a try. Best of luck, -Randy Quote
Don Jordan Posted February 12, 2008 Author Report Posted February 12, 2008 What a great link - I'll check into it. It will be so much easier that all the other BS. I knew I could count on you guys. Thank you - Thank you. Quote
billwillard Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 I don't need a title but I have to disagree with you. It is easy being stupid. I keeping living just to prove that. Quote
oldmopar Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 You do need to check if your state will accept a title from them. I know here in NJ they do not work with the title companies and some of the big ones tell you that. So before you spend you money be sure you can use. I would check with the seller of the car he should be able to do the whole thing by mail. Explain to him what happened and offer him some money for his time and trouble. Ed Quote
PatS.... Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Relax, ...as soon as you go through all the BS of replacing the pink slip, it'll turn up!!!!! Right where you put it!!! Happens to me all the time. I keep Mr Murphy in business. Quote
Normspeed Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 If it isn't ready for frequent long drives, I'd switch tags with the legal one for short spins. The papers will turn up if you wait a while. Dennis H, I didn't really say that..... Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 Try Broadway they got me a title ......fast:) Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 I don't know how they handle it in California, but you can get in big trouble switching tags from car to car without paperwork in Wisconsin. Quote
bob westphal Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 A few years ago I used company named International Title Service. They provide a registration from Maine along with a new bill of sale. Maine doesn't have titles for older cars. I took this paper work to the Washington DMV and walked away with a title and plates. They can be contacted at 800-543-8626 or www.its-titles.com. Cost me $120. Quote
Furylee2 Posted February 12, 2008 Report Posted February 12, 2008 I used these guys too for the title for the 64. Nebraska is suppose to be one of the "tough" states. The bill of sale I got was from Maine as well. The County Sheriff looked at the paperwork and serial numbers, and passed it right through. Lee Quote
