cwcars88 Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 Why is it that if Iam going threw the forums and click on one that sends me to another posting and I am there for a few minutes, when I come back I am no longer logged in. I have the same thing happen if I post a reply. When I try to submit the reply it says I am no longer logged in. So I re-log in and I lose my reply. So I don't reply often. But this doesn't keep me off. I find this site very interesting, you Guy's have given me a lot of great information. I am on almost every day. I am hooked. Thanks Wayne Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 Seems like there is a "remember me" box you can check.....maybe that would do the trick. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 8, 2008 Report Posted February 8, 2008 Wayne, I don't have the remember me box checked either, and the same thing happens to me sometimes. However, it only happens to me if I don't have any activity for a few minutes. Then it will cut me off when trying to post something or when I hit refresh. It especially happens when I'm trying to find a picture I want to post because it may take me awhile longer to make a reply. When I get cut off like that, I copy my reply, then log in again. If I loose the original reply I just go back to that thread, hit paste and paste the original reply in the box, then hit submit. So.......next time it happens, remember to copy your reply prior to trying to log back in. That way it's on your clipboard to paste back into a new reply box. Quote
Don Coatney Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 when I hit refresh. . Norm; Dont hit refresh. Hit the New Posts tab instead. Then it shows only the new postings. But you might have to come out of the closet and stay logged in instead of incognito:cool: Quote
PatS.... Posted February 9, 2008 Report Posted February 9, 2008 I would think it was a cookies problem...and that's the extent of my computer knowledge Quote

Has nothing to do with the fact that I have it set so you don't know if I'm online or not. Thats another box to check. I like being incognito, you never know when I'm here or not. Quote
cwcars88 Posted February 10, 2008 Author Report Posted February 10, 2008 Norm I will try that next time, copy my reply before I re-log in. The time it takes me to hunt and pick out a reply, I hate to get dumped. Thanks Wayne Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Unless you are on a computer at work, or a public computer, why does anyone "log out":confused:If I log out, I have trouble remembering who I am when its time to log in. I never set preferences where a password is used to remember me. So.........I don't actually log out when I leave the board, I simply close the tab or turn the computer off. Then that automatically logs me out. When I can't remember who I am, I just look at my drivers license. Quote
james curl Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Is your password on your drivers license? Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Is your password on your drivers license? No, but I only use three different passwords for different sites. So.........that way I don't forget them. Quote
greg g Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 Wait a minute, you mean I'm the only one who has a folder on his desktop labled passwords???? The folder is password protected though. This password and pin number stuff is gonna get real complicated, specially when I'm sittin on the rocker at the wrinkle ranch. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted February 11, 2008 Report Posted February 11, 2008 I try to use the same set of passwords and ID's for various places visited. That way I don't have to try and remember so many. However, I do keep a little list for sites where I have had to use something entirely different. Usually i do not log out of a site, just close it and go on. Then it will re-open ok the next time. And Pat mentioned "cookies".....if you knock out the cookie for a particular website, you will need to go back and put in the needed info for it to identify you later. Cookies are both good and bad things far as I can tell. They retain your info for places you use, but the companies stick them into your computer when you bring up other web sites....some are used to track what sites you visit so they can tailor some sales pitch to you. On occasion I have brought up the cookies section, but it's hard to know which ones you need to keep since they use all the computer jargon and abbreviations to purposely be vague to the un-knowing. You can delete the whole list and then replace the ones you use as you get to the site you like to visit. Will have to enter your info as you did originally. Then you should be remembered. Quote

Us older folk need to do that as we get older. Just do as I do and use, Tom, Dick or Harry as passwords. Or, you could go to the extreme like me and only visit a handful of sites and don't surf or buy anything via the Net. That way you don't need a lot of different names or passwords. If I do visit a different site that requires me to log in, I just use a phony name, email address, phone number and home address. The computer is so dumb it will let you get the info you want from that site. If you go back again, just make up another name, address, etc. Quote
