can anyone help me with this problem? i have a 1948 dodge d25 sedan. according to the engine no(D43216420C) its from a 1953 dodge with a 25 inch head.the only other no on the head that i can see is"K73". does this stand for "kew"motor,if so what does it all mean?as i would like to fit a twin carb split manafold at a later date!

What you are looking at is probably the engine from an export model dodge (such as we have here in Canada). The american dodge has a 23 1/4 inch flathead, and we have the 25 inch flathead, as is found in the american chryslers and desotos..... in the meantime, I'll look and see if I can find specifics on the numbers...

It'll be a 218 or 230, 25 inch long block Chrysler Flathead 6, made in the Windsor Ontario Plant. This engine can be bored out, with a different crank and rods, and pistons you can make it into a 251 or 265.

You would use the dual intake and exhaust manifolds the same as the Chrysler/Desoto 251....................Fred

just thought id let you know, that there were only 5000 of these cars bought over here(Australia),so i have been told!they were assembled in Adelaide south australia(Richards Industries). they are the same body as the p15 with dodge grill etc!I found a number stamped in the chassis rail(over the diff) RP15L,maybe the export number for this model but can be sure!I think the motor, being a 53 model could be out of a Plymouth Belvedere or Dodge Kingsway, hopefully its a 218 or better a 230 as its a running motor but a little tired and might need a rebuild anyway!

The engine number, D-43-2-16420C, is from a 1953 Dodge Regent. As the engine number is above D-43-2-8269C, it is 228.1-cid block. Engines built from D-43-2-1001C to D-43-2-8269C were 218.0-cid. Both have a 3.375" bore, but the 218.0 block has a 4.0625" stroke while the 228.1 block has a 4.25" stroke.

In April, 1953, Chrysler Canada upped the engine size in the Plymouth and Dodge, introduced the "-3" series Belvedere and Mayfair (sedan and hardtop), and added Hy-Drive as an option. Thus the need to increase engine size.

The max a 3.375" engine can be bored out is 3.445", a little greater than the 250.6/264.5 bore of 3.4375".

The 230.2-cid and 217.6-cid engines, as used in American-built Plymouths and Dodges, are 23" block engines.

As for a split manifold, if it is for a 25" block, no problem.

And if you look at another recent thread on the forum (i believe its called "a favor for George Asche") you'll see a picture of an intake made just for the 25 inch engines like this one.... the edmunds, offys, etc are harder to find because they don't make them any more (in the case of one company in particular, they have the patterns, but feel that it isn't worth making them.... but they make the 23" version....)

Somebody on e bay was selling a long block with a Split intake and split header style exhaust. I don;t remember what they said condition wise other than it was out of a driving vehicle, they had a buy it now in the 1200 to 1500 dollar range. I found it using keywords mopar flathead ina general search. don;t know when it was ending but I noticed it wed or thursday.

thanks Bill for that info on the engine size! i managed to find the year it was made but drew a blank after that.I just thought it might have been a 53 belvedere or kingsway as they are called here! I asked around a couple of places today about twin carb manafolds to suit a side valve 6 and was looked at like id just landed from planet "WHAT".Anyway i spose ill have to ship one over when im ready.Idont think they can get passed FORDS and CHEVS over here yet!im sure they"ll catch up one day!LOL! Thanks again for your help! Brad. Melbourne,Australia.
