Just saw this posted on another site and 'borrowed' it to bring it over here!!

Thought it was interesting,,,for someone 'else' to do and me to 'read'

Thought you guys might like to hear about this. A high performance muffler company put on a contest this past summer. Rules are minimal, must be a street legal car running pump gas and mufflers. Ten qualifying events thru the summer with the ten best getting together in Vegas for the final run. Strap you car to a wheel dyno and let 'er rip. Winner gets $25000. Well 7 of ten showed up at Vegas, proud to say 3 were from the great state of Minnesota. A couple of the finalists qualified using E-85, by the time they all got to Vegas ALL SEVEN were using E-85. Winner built a all new 427 small block chevy with twin turbos in a '64 Rambler 4 door that cranked out 1642 horsepower at the rear wheels. Second place was a 70 Chevelle with a 540 Big block chevy also twin turbo but no intercooler that laid down 1455 hp and third was a '71 Hemi Cuda with a 605 Keith Black Hemi with a 500hp shot of nitrous oxide that put out 1435 hp. Fourth went to a 427 small block ford in a '95 Mustang, twin turbo and 1382 hp, fifth was a supercharged 65 Chevelle wiith a 540 BBC, sixth was a 59 Impala with a 509BBC at 1218 hp, and seventh was a 98 Corvette running 408 Generation III small block cheby with a stock block and heads and stock t56 trans and rearend holding dowm 1200 hp. UN-FREAKIN' BELIEVEABLE

Just read the article and thought MAYBE somebody here would enjoy reading it. cant believe they can get THAT much HP out of any small block. That HAS to be a ton of mods to getter dun!! Would be something IF they required those cars to drive to the test site!!

My 300ZX Twin Turbo even though its a 3L 6 cyl cracks the 180kph ( approx 120mph) speed cut in nothing at all... damn speed cut

Last time I had it on the Dyno, (stock of course) I made 173.8kW which converts to 232.97HP

Apparently the magic number to hit for these cars with simple bolt on mods eg intake , exhaust, fuel management and turbo upgrade is 250kW which is still only 335HP

Fair enough the competitors have an extra 2 cyl and the bore and stroke might be a little bit bigger but to make 5 times more power than what a modifieded 6cyl TT makes they must have more dollars than sense:eek:

The thing to do would be to find the software they are running in the dyno machine and hack into it. It can't be all that secure...

Find the line where you enter motor type... add a line

=== If motor = "Mopar Flathead" then HP = HP times 20 ===

Then go there with a stock, raggedy, smoking motor with tappet noise. 1800 hp at 2800 RPM , and where is my $25K please?
