steveplym Posted January 1, 2008 Report Posted January 1, 2008 Happy new year to all!!! Just got the 218 back in the '47. Motor mounts are tightened down and ready to install the tranny and put the clutch linkage back together. Wondering if anyone has a diagram or pic of how the clutch linkage goes back together. This is just a standard three speed. It is basically together, but need to know where and what bolts to the bell housing, etc. I've spent the last few days detailing the engine compartment and painting. I'll post some pics of the progress soon. Quote

steveplym Posted January 2, 2008 Author Report Posted January 2, 2008 Thanks Tim. Good diagram, but I am still having problems figuring it out. I've got it bolted back up, but the clutch rod is longer now than it was before so maybe I have something hooked up wrong. If someone has a good photo of their clutch linkage on a P-15 it might help solve my puzzle. Quote
steveplym Posted January 11, 2008 Author Report Posted January 11, 2008 Okay I was going to post a picture of the bracket that holds the spring to the clutch fork, but I can see in Don's pics where that goes. I've got everything bolted up right and the clutch rod was too long, I readjusted it and it fits okay. I did not do anything different to the clutch assy or bell housing so do not know why it would be too long now. I may just be kinda anal, but there is no way I could have installed the clutch disk backwards is there? Pressure plate sits flush against the flywheel, so I figure all should be good there. Any ideas? Quote
Normspeed Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 It's possible to install the disk backwards, seems like someone on the forum had that problem a while back. I'm not sure it would affect the clutch rod length though. Wish I could recall who it was, maybe someone here has a better memory than mine. Is your disk and pressure plate new? that can affect the adjustment length quite a bit. Quote
Normspeed Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 Hey Steve, take a look at this thread: http://www430.pair.com/p15d24/mopar_forum/showthread.php?t=559&highlight=clutch+disk+backward This is the one where the disk was in backwards. The spline area is longer on one side and if it's in backwards the spline will contact the flywheel. Should be easy to check if your bottom cover is off the bellhousing. See the photo near the end of the thread. Quote
steveplym Posted January 11, 2008 Author Report Posted January 11, 2008 Thanks Norm. Clutch and pressure plate were replaced a few years back and flywheel machined. Figured no need to replace it as all is well, put same bell housing, clutch, and flywheel back in the car. Only change was the motor, so wondered why it would be need to be shortened. Quote
steveplym Posted January 11, 2008 Author Report Posted January 11, 2008 Checked the picture in the noted thread. My clutch disk is sitting flush against the flywheel. I'll check it again tonight to make sure. Maybe there is nothing wrong with it, could just be one of those fluke things. Quote
